For a Post Covid event, we're organizing a Track Day with NASA at Sonoma Raceway, Saturday August 28th. Even if you dont wanna drive, come on out! There is only a $10 gate fee for Sonoma, but spectating is free, and if you bring (or share) helmets, you can get a passenger pass or $5 for the whole weekend.Z
For anyone local or traveling..we'll plan a dinner in the area Friday evening.
Nothing suggests you cant sign up for both days, but the main day for us will be Saturday.
We have reserved parking at the far end of the grandstands.
Here are all of the words about how the event works, and how to sign up.
Short Story:
Become a National NASA Member (this pays for the event insurance)
Sign up for the Regional event
Long story: Time for the track day thats been promised. These are about YOU and your habits and car comfort. Not 'racing'. It's all about smiles...and we have different groups for different levels of comfort. There's something for everyone.
Whats it like:
Here's a 15yr old Katie at Sonoma, first time there:
High Level Requirement:
You must be a National NASA Member to participate, THEN you can register for the actual event.
To become a member: https://nasaproracing.com/users/sign_up
Register for 1 or both days, day 2 is usually a blast as you learn a lot day 1 and have bigger smiles day 2.
Be aware, that if you register beyond..late July, the groups start to fill up for August, especially in Group1, because we can't have more students, than registered instructors.
Read up on HPDE groups here: https://nasaproracing.com/hpde/
Our instructors are trained, and scored and well managed. You wont learn racing, you will learn YOU and proper control of the world around you. You will use lessons learned here every day.
Note that HPDE3 is either Saturday only or both days together. There is no 1-day for Sunday. Group3 opens up the track for the students across both days. The other groups can be split between the days.
Open face helmets are OK, you just have to have eye protection (glasses). Helmet minimum is 2005 SA or MA.
If you have interior 'safety' modifications, ask in the group, I will help address what's acceptable or will cause issues for you during inspection.
Hotels, here is a quick dirty search: https://www.hotels.com/search.do?destination-id=1456498...
Or camp at the track..we stay at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael if anyone wonders. But there are no bad choices.
Once we get closer, I will setup a Dinner Friday evening, and I will have special at the track for everyone Saturday evening as well.
Im sure there are 1000 questions, let's go over them in the FB thread, or here on RL.
