Default Replacing internal AC relay

I'm in the middle of replacing the AC relay that's inside the main controller unit (I'm using the excellent instructions from Dr.Bob on the Nichols web site).

Unfortunately, Radio Shack sells the relay as part #275-218 not the #275-218C that Dr. Bob describes. I'm not a wiz when it comes to electrical diagrams, so I'm not sure which wire from the PC board goes to which connection on the new relay. Dr.Bob said to just connect wire 1 to connection 1 and so on, but I'm not sure if that will work with this different relay.

Anyone know how to figure out which wire goes to which connector on the relay?

Eric--

Send me a sketch of the pin assignments on the R-S relay if you can. The relays usually have that diagram screened onto the case somewhere. I can get the correct wire numbers and a revised pin drawing back to you. It will also let me update the instruction for the more commonly available R-S part so others can take advantage.

It looks like it's time for the annual 928 "start-the-AC, oh darn..." season to get going again!

Here's a picture of the pin assignment for the Radio Shack relay described by Bob.

Hope this helps.

Ernest,

Interestingly, the RS part #275-218 has slightly different specs than the 275-218C, but the diagram is the same (except that "A" is "7" and "B" is "8"). It's also made by Omron in Indonesia.

Thanks - I think this will lead me in the right direction!

Just a final update - the wiring described by Ernest was also confirmed by Dr. Bob and it worked!

Would it be easier to use a small relay in the head and a large one (like a foglight relay) at the AC compressor? I was planning to do this mod before my climate control head relay burns as a preventative measure.

I think that using the extra heavy-duty relay is a good idea.

In addition, you could use this on an early model, along with a heavy-duty diode, to make the electric cooling fan run any time that the A/C compressor was running.
