The photo is of the wires under the driver's seat (LHD) USA model. Looks to me like a previous owner cut into the factory wiring, and added connectors. I'm not sure what change was made or why this was done. The car has an old Blaupunkt cassette head unit and original speakers. I'm looking for ideas and suggestions on what is going on here. I'm wondering if they by-passed the fader control **** at the left hand of the driver's seat?

That’s what it looks like. If your head unit has front/rear fader internally, no reason to keep the cross fader hooked up.
