Default Brake fluid reservoir gap

I am trying to install the reservior back into the master cylinder. The seals are in the master cylinder. When I press tbe reservior down I still see a gap. Is the bottom of the reservior supposed to touch the top of the rubber gasket?

I was able to see some one ebay and it sits just flush. I just have to find out what type of threading compound to use on the brakes. I noticed the old one was red in color
