Default Intensive Washer Fluid Reservoir Designs

Does anyone here know what model year the intensive reservoir changed to have two nipples molded into the top of the tank? The one in my '78 has a single nipple on the back passenger side of the tank. It has the same part number as the newer/different versions, which seems odd to me. I've been working (unsuccessfully, I might add) on getting mine whitened up so I started browsing online to see if I could just find a newer one that's more white/translucent. That's when I discovered the design change and part number peculiarity.

I suspect that it had to do with the change from up front by the radiator back to the cowl in 87 with the S4.

The S4 tank has a completely different design. See this listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-928...kAAOSwcy1gLsZd

Both of the above are intended to be mounted in the front.

Yeh, I wondered about that after I posted.

The changeover from early (1 hose out of the top of the cap, 1 hose out the bottom rear) to late (2 hose barbs off the top of the tank) happened between US market car # 816 and #917. The auction photos on BAT are very handy for answering these sorts of questions- there may be additional cars between these two VINs to further narrow this down.

@islaTurbine : Here's something I ran across a while ago that seemed intriguing, and might be what you're looking for:
(this is not a Rick roll, I promise).

It's not in the description, but last I did some tiling I think you can get the sulfamic acid from a home store.

Cheers

Excellent find. I don’t know how that didn’t turn up me before. I just grabbed some sulfamic acid crystals for under $8 at my Home Depot.

Thats a great idea. I’ve got some ‘78 engine bay pics saved on my computer but all must be earlier cars like mine as they all looked the same. BAT will be very useful.

Nice. Here is another less caustic technique that uses hydrogen peroxide and UV leds that I've been meaning to try.

My first attempt at reducing the yellow discoloration was with a similar technique using some 30 Volume Cream Whitener from Sally Beauty. It contains hydrogen peroxide but unfortunately didn't do much whitening. On two separate days I coated the reservoir in the cream, put it in a ziploc bag and let it sit in the Georgia sun. Each day it sat in the sun for close to 12 hours and I made sure to periodically check to make sure that the reservoir stayed wet with the cream. I also made an attempt using 3% hydrogen peroxide liquid with this same technique but it also had no effect.

My last effort will be to buy some powder bleach, mix it with the 30 volume cream and again let it sit in the sun for a day or two.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Yeah this process looked promising, but maybe it is a function of the type of plastic being used.

Here it is after a full day of sun with the 30 cream developer and the bleach powder. After I rinsed it clean I then gave it a very gentle scrubbing with a Mr Clean pad. I think it has improved some since I began my efforts but it’s obviously not a huge difference.

Thats a fairly generous treatment of a not-that-old tank, with zero corrosion.

I applied the new decal from 928 Classics this morning (thanks to @Jadz928 ).

I must say that the tank actually looks pretty darn good under natural light compared to the previous photos which were taken under 2700k LED interior lighting. And it looks even better with the decal now applied.

I’ll call this project a success.
