79 928 Engine removal issue
Hello all,
I recently purchased a 79 928 manual project from a buddy. Getting ready to do a complete engine rebuild on it. When I got from p.o engine was seized, hence the need for a rebuild. I'm about 90 percent done with removing the engine, but I've hit a wall.
Im trying to remove the pinch bolts for the cupler that goes from the intermediate shaft to the torque tube. The bolt head that's on the cupler is facing in the opposite direction and where I can't get to it. I've tried putting the car in neutral with clutch pressed, but the shaft still doesn't turn. Can't for the life of me, with the motor being seized, figure out how to get the shaft to turn where I can access the bolt for removal.
I'm reaching out to see if anyone here might have any other ideas.
Thanks.

If you carefully pry the release arm back it should release the clutch to turn the driveshaft if the disc is rusted to the clutch plate and flywheel then thing will be more difficult 😥

If you can move the release arm, I have had luck using a ratchet strap to hold the release arm open in order to turn the shaft. Loop the strap around the release arm and the rear cross member and tighten slowly. You might then be able to rock the rear wheels with the car in gear and free the clutch and shaft.

Success! Thank you both for the ideas, I really appreciate it! I ended up using a combination of both ideas; ratchet strap, pry bar, and a pair of vice grips to get it to break free.

Glad to be of help! Hopefully things go smoothly from here on. But I've worked on my two '78s enough to know there will be much frustration along the way, but very satisfying when it all comes together!

Morning,
I was finally able to find the time to get the engine out, but now I’m just hoping I didn’t damage anything on the way out. The very end of Intermediate shaft got caught on the edge of the bell housing while I was jacking the hoist. So when I realized it was hung up, it looked like it had maybe lifted the torque tube an inch or two. Is that something I should be concerned about?
