Wow, I missed the post about the "big" garage somehow I glanced at the drawing but assumed it was a house you are building!
Yes, if you are using the garage intermittently, the radiant takes way too long. We have it in the lower level of a rental property we own and it's always a bit of an education with the tenants when they first move in. The first cold snap hits and they text to say the heat is not working
I like the sound of the cabinets. You might set them off nicely if the "lower" color was red!
Shawn's idea about the floor would be killer.

It's been two years in the works and hopefully will turn out per the plan and within budget. Unfortunately, lumber and labor prices have exploded!
I'm experiencing a mixture of thought between this and this.

Progress has slowed because of difficulty getting drywall sheets in 12 foot lengths and the roof stalled for lack of two bundles of shingles!
Building materials are getting scarce and way more expensive than before. In some cases 50% higher than last year at this time... OUCH!

I live in a place that normally attracts those who live in Metro NYC, but especially when they have a special reason to escape. Once before after 9/11, now again during Covid. Restaurants here had their best year ever last year, and real estate activity was very high, including building. I even lost out on a bid to buy an 80-acre vacant lot near me - off-grid, a half-mile up easements that didn't include utilities. Fortunately, I bought most lumber for the new barn early; treated lumber was entirely unavailable for a few months. Unfortunately, hiring help to build it wasn't going to be easy, so I had to do it myself with some help from the neighbors.

I credit the barn project to the life-altering nature of owning an excavator. Highly recommended tool, right up there with Knipex pliers. The 928 has been life-altering, too.

The contractor also sent this photo of progress through yesterday. Seems he found some drywall and is knocking out the inside this week. He even put green board on the lower four feet to make it splash resistant. A good surprise!
Should be cars in here in three weeks if all goes to plan!

Looking good! Nice of your contractor to go with green board on the bottom. I have often wondered why cement board does not get used in marginally conditioned spaces like garages. My brother and I used it in his finished basement that occasionally has water issues, the idea being if it does get wet you can just dry it out quickly with no damage (obviously if you did not react quickly you might grow mold even in cement board) Like you, we did the bottom 48". Obviously you'd be into a skim coat etc. so finishing is more labor. In my bro's case, he opted to put PVC wainscoating over it so taping and finish was minimal anyway. Left a big gap on the bottom that he covered with a piece of trim. If he ever did get flooded, he could pull out the trim and get the floor fan up against the gap and dry it all out. Untested thus far...
But I digress...

Still pushing on the ancillary garage, have a great carpenter that works well into the evenings and is a perfectionist... He did all the framing and finish work on his own. Got to love people that take pride in their work!
The electrical is close to being finished and the stonemasons and driveway people are on deck.
Interior paint scheme is taking shape and I have to get a good shot of the interior posted... Woo HOO! I'll be parking cars in here soon.

Looking good. I like the contrast from clapboards on the bottom to shingles on the top. Classic look. Those are Hardie or some other manmade? Or cedar? They look too identical to be cedar...

A crappy picture of the interior - - - Adding a 10" red stripe with Porsche script printed on it as a belt line graphic and you can see the mini-split in the wall. The floor will be "Race Deck" to match the cottage garage.
Good thing I was sitting down when I received the new quote for the rose-quartz and basalt washed concrete bordered and dyed concrete driveway. Last year $30k, this year $51k, Now looking at alternatives. Labor shortage is intense here in the skilled trades.
The garage doors, ceiling fan, side entry door, stone sconce lights and a few other items are all back ordered. Lots of issues with the supply chain for builders right now!
