Yes. Red is quite fitting I think.
Tom,
I took off all the trim & accessories, removed the glass, lights, bumpers, etc.
I also bought all the paint, reducers, additives, etc.
It had been repainted once before. From opalmetalic to chiffon white.
The guy who painted it repaired a few dings in the doors, surface rust around the rear hatch glass, stripped and replaced the gravel guard on the rockers panels, stripped the bumpers, repaired a couple cracks in the rear one, sanded and prepped it, painted the door jambs, hood underside, hatch jamb, etc..
The autobody guy who did it came highly recommended. He's in Twinsburg, Ohio, so we trailered it down and back. He had it for 4 weeks.
All totaled after some bartering and favors, it came to just over $3,000.

Rob M Budd,
Thanks for posting, post more pics after get it back together. I plan to repaint my shark but I need to buy another Porsche so I have something to drive around while I dismantle the 928. I plan to take about 2-3 months to do the whole job myself.
Did you replace the outer seals on the doors for the windows. Mine need replacing and I'll need new sets of them to do the job right.
It certainly is alot of work or a labor of love.

Am planning on doing this too, although hopefully locally. A couple of questions.
I see the rear quarter and rear hatch were removed. Did you remove the door window too? I've heard those seals are a PIA to replace. Same question as Red, are you replacing all the seals.
What kind of paint did you buy, what color, guards red? I have red now, but it's pretty tired. Will be doing most of the body and prep, cuz I'm a cheap bastard.

I figure it will take me about 1-2 weeks to take my shark apart. 3-4 weeks prep. 1 week to paint, then another month to put it back together all taking my time. I have another set of fenders I'll practice painting on before I hit the shark.
Its really not that hard to paint but you certainly don't want runs. I might hire my neighbor to paint it instead. I just have a ugly feeling about after all this work I'll stress out of it gets bird ****, or door dings from Home Depot afterwards.
So questions on where you got door seals from and how much? Also where did you get the paint?

Yes. I removed all the seals and glass except the windshield, which was in good shape.
I have all new replacements ready to go back on. --- Inside, outside, upper & lower door seals, hatch, hood, cowl, mirror, sunroof, door lock, quarter window, bumper, lights, etc.
The seals were in fairly good shape for being 24 years old, but I didn't plan on using them over.
Taking them out wasn't difficult at all. The window/door seals are made up of several pieces. You can get them out intact without much of a problem unless they are badly deteriorated. Getting them back on may be a different story, but I don't expect much of a problem.
I had all the metal trim refinished in a polyurethane semi-gloss trim black. The glass will be tinted while it’s out too.
The rubber seals came from 928intl.com and vertexauto.com. I guess I spent about $1,000 for all of it but I got the splash shield seals, and seals along the inside of the hood and a few light lenses to replace those that are scratched or cracked.
It took only a weekend to take it apart. It looks like a lot, but once you get past the bumpers it goes fast. Besides; like many of us, I had a lot of practice disassembling and assembling a 928.
I used Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 Super Glamour Clearcoat and their Ultra Basecoat. The color is Milano Red, which is a Honda/Acura color.
I guess you could say it’s becoming a UN vehicle since it has features from automakers on 3 continents, Porsche, Chevy and Honda.

Rez,
Thanks.
Dave,
How about Porschevhda? Has sort of a Mideast ring to it.
Of course regardless of the UN status, it will always be driven unilaterally. Its the only way to get things done on my own terms.
Thanks.
