Buying new switches is certainly an option, especially if yours don't work (and the window switches tend to wear out).
Here are the reasons I have for overlays:
- A set of four switches here in the US is probably about $160-$180. You can print these for free as long as you have vinyl and printer. Or you can buy a full set of overlays with spares off eBay for $25.
- The vinyl decals may not wear out as fast as the white print on the switches, and if they do they can be removed and replaced.
- It seems wasteful to me to replace a functioning part.
- You can experiment/customize with other designs than the ones Porsche originally used.
- Applying overlays take five minutes and you don't need to remove switches or pull off the console side panels and fish around the wiring to apply overlays or wrestle with inserting the new switches.
So, yes, you can buy new switches. This is just an option for those who don't want to.

I engraved another set at 17.5 mm which is probably a hair too big because I can see a little bit of the white sticker edge. I think they are a little straighter this time as well. The passenger window switch isn't original which is why there is a slight color difference in the plastic. Buy all in all they look good and are definitely much better then the faded white symbols that were there.
Looks good. Thanks for printing these and testing them. The only thing I would want to improve is the white edge where the overlays are cut, but that will require either printing white onto pure black vinyl or blacking out the edges with ink (which I suspect would wear off).
I'm sending you a set 17.5 mm as well as a set of 17 mm and I was thinking the same thing after installing them. The 17mm may hide within the pocket and not show the edges of the sticker. I will also look at different materials to see if there is one without the white substrate.
The missile launcher above the wiper button is missing
I didn't know that was an option for the 928! Draw it up and I can burn one for you! Then your rocket launcher can be properly labelled. Would stink to launch when you really only wanted to turn on the wipers!

Personally, I prefer the 'machine guns' option, but that's just me.

Well, there's a fair amount of electronics that have to be turned on to actually launch the missiles. Or fire the machine guns.
The switch to activate the system is hidden. In a secret spot. That switch needs to be turned on before they can be fired.
And for those wondering, yes, it has a few '53' relays.
So the first thing to check when your misslies or machine guns won't work is the...
So Matt sent me an image for the seat position switches. I also used another material instead of the tamper proof labels I was using. White ring around the edge is a little less obvious. I haven't installed them yet but here is a sheet. This should have most of the required switch overlays.
Out of need and boredom, I put together a set of overlays for the window, wiper and sunroof switches that get so worn down.
I plan to experiment with printing these onto matte vinyl. Likely I will print, cut, black ink over any white edge from the cutting and then spray with a protectant clear (http://papilio.com/spray%20uv%20clea...20aerosol.html) to help them last longer and keep them from fading. (I have used this spray on printed vinyl exterior trim detail on another car and it was still perfect after ten years).
Below is a JPEG of the images. I created it in Photoshop with layers for all the different button elements. So, if anyone wants to play with it and use it as a basis for making custom buttons, send me a message and I will happily share the PSD file.

Hi Matt is there any chance for me to purchase a sheet of the stickers you have spare? I live in Australia on the East Coast Brisbane to be precise. I’ve been restoring an 85 Porsche 928 auto. The button decals have completely worn out. Thanks I look forward to hearing from you.
