Default Another noise at gearbox zone

Dear all.

'89 S4 Auto

I have read all the threads with the word "noise" in the forum and I couldn't find a noise similar to mine. That noise comes from gearbox/diff area, it's rpm dependant and it disappears when the transmission is loaded, I mean the noise only is present in Park or Neutral.

Torque converter and Torque tube bearings were changed 7 years ago (10.000 kms), because there was another noise much worse before the bearings were replaced.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much

Hi Schocki

I am doing the ATF service just now. Do you think that that noise could be produced by a wrong ATF level?.

Thanks

Ah...... Now we're talking! How many liters of ATF did you put in already and did your drain the torque converter too?

Yes, I saw you PM, thanks

Noise was recordered just before ATF drain, I have drained TC too (total was 6,5 -7 ltr) but now I am waiting for the kickdown spring, because mine was broken. As soon as spare comes, I will fill the tranny and report again.

I asked the question of noise in case it was important to notice anything wrong with the gearbox now that it was out of oil and filter.

Thank you

Ok, this was recorded before. How did the transmission drive before, no problems except for the noise?
To me it sounded like the pump was sucking air in P and N.

Right. No problems except the Noise only in P or N. The trains worked fine. No issues.

Hi folks

ATF service done. 7,5 liters of Dexron IID were refilled.

The procedure I followed was: Motor stopped, I fill the reservoir to max, wait for some minutes, then I start the motor in N and surprise: NOISE.IS GONE

With the motor started in N, I am going refilling the reservoir, NOISE IS COMING, then I switch among D, R, N and P gears for some seconds and return to N. Noise is evident now. I adjust the level to cold mark. Total 7,5 liters.

Noise goes out when gear is in D or R. Noise travels from the torque converter to differential.

May be bad torque converter?, Transmission works fine, no issues except the noise.

Thanks for the comments

Roque

This is an update of noise.

Starting, the gear is P, a little acceleration for hearing purposes (sound pitch changes), then I change to D (no noise), change to N (Noise), change to R (No noise) and finally, change to P again (noise).

Any suggestions?
