Default Thanks

thanks for all the help. You guys are great. so I did find a badge on front of the the car under the hood that said 928 09. Does that mean anything and do you all think that because the motor has been changed will that lower the value of the car and now I'm woundering if theres anyway to find out exactly what motor that I have with out any numbers. I am not doubting your guys experience. The car still has the spair tire and all the tools in the little flip down thing It

even has the rubbers gloves in the bag and some belts that have a german tag tied to them.

are there any stickers in the door jambs or in the owners manual?
As an aside take the registration and the picture of the VIN to the dealer ask them to run a service history ,
see when the engine might have been swapped

What color is that in the rear hatch/spare tire area? Yellow or tan? Is that the original color? Looking at the engine bay pics, looks like the red is in there.
(BTW, intakes look like stock 4.5 liter engine, the 300 hp 4.7 liter intake tubes are beefier as in the pic below)

yes, very interesting question on the color - if it's talbot yellow, that is a rare color, and if you are restoring, maybe worth bringing that one back to it.

To determine whether the engine is original to this car, there should be an engine number stamped on block under that upper radiator hose, near cam gear cover. Maybe a dealer or someone here can help verify whether it has correct numbers. Also try 928oc.org. They maintain a registry of cars by VIN; I don't know if it includes engine numbers, but it would seem to be a source. One of their links led to: http://928oc.org/928oc_928s4vr/928s4002.htm which has some engine numbers for matching chassis number which I believe are VINs on older models.
