Default 928 Mechanic near Ft. Benning, GA

Any Rennlisters in or near Ft. Benning, GA? My son is down there with his '88 A/T and is having some issues with the tranny not shifting correctly at times. He says it seems like it's slipping. It may be as simple as low tranny fluid, but he wouldn't have a clue how to check.

Looking for a knowledgeable shop or someone on this list who might be able to give him a hand.

Thanks!

There are quite a few of us in the Atlanta area but not sure about Columbus. There really isn't any way to check trans fluid level unless you can get the car on a lift or have lift bars where you can put it on jack stands. Is he stationed at Ft. Benning? I ask as most bases have a shop where soldiers can work on their own vehicles, he would just need to reserve a time. Either way, I am more than happy to drive down and help out. Just let me know, Kevin

Thanks so much Kevin! Yes, he's a 2LT stationed at Ft. Benning. I'm up in WV so can't get down there easily.
He killed his battery a few weeks ago when he left an interior light on so I have him putting a full charge on it tonight to to make sure that's not the problem. I'll let you know tomorrow if he still needs help.

He put a full charge on the battery last night and it's still shifting funny, feeling like it's slipping until the car warms up. Leads me to believe ATF may be low and not shifting right until it warms up unless you have any other thoughts. Hopefully needs nothing more than a top off. I have him checking into availability of the local auto craft shop. I know they HAD one, because I used it when I was stationed there....many moons ago.

On another note, I see you have a guards red over cashmere/black '93 GTS. I've had the same car since '99. Still going strong at 178k miles.

Sounds good! Yes, have had the 93 since 2015 and have enjoyed it very much! Just let me know, I'm pretty flexible as I'm working remote due to COVID impact.
