Thank you Rob - that is what I thought. Cheers!

A new unit to add.
There was a US car with the correct equipment codes for a GT, but with manual S4 engine and gearbox according to the PET.
After investigation, it appears that WP0JB0920KS860944 is indeed a 1989 GT, but was delivered to Porsche AG, Stuttgart!
It was maybe used as a promotional or homologation vehicle.
This is the first US GT.

But without the engine and gearbox...is it really a GT? That is what makes the GT a GT...regardless of the code?

I'm convinced that the PET is wrong about the engine and gearbox types:
- The car has all the GT 1989 equipment codes, including the M639.
- The engine number starts with 85K like a GT, not like the 81K like an S4.
- The gearbox number fits the others G28/55 that I already know and is far too small for a regular manual S4.

This is not the first time that we find mistakes into the PET.

This car was linen with a burgundy interior, seats with multicolor cloth inserts, and....no sunroof!

I have the rear hatch from KS861198 on my S4. I’m very curious to know what happened to the rest of that car.

There is a link in the registry for that VIN. Not sure if you can see it without being a registered member:
https://www.928oc.org/928-registry/v...928-gt-us-1138

Doesn't say anything about it being dismantled...

well that is very interesting. I’m going to have to sign up and see when it was added to the registry and if there is contact information for the current owner. Not sure if that info is available but it’s worth a look.

No owner info available that I can see. Entry was created in 2014 (coinciding with the OC getting the database I believe). Not sure if there is any other info to be had although this was the first real 928 database created by Chuck Zachmann (89GT Registry) way back in the day, so there has to be some metadata there.

It may not be visible but there must be some record of which user added the car to the registry. The search continues. My car spent most of it’s like in the Virginia / DC area.

i would love to know the history on this hatch swap.
