Does anyone have a stock S4 setup with only the resonators missing (cats and rear muffler in place)?

Old & New,

I was wondering how the Murph cars sounded with stock exhaust. It looks like your looking for more exhaust note. Do you think you'll get even more power out of the car with this slight exhaust mod? What are Tim and Lagavulin using for exhaust systems on their SC cars? - Ruf

I have an RMB on my GT. Under normal exceleration (pre SC) the sound was melodious. At WOT, there was no mistaking that there was 300+ ponies stampeding by.....

With the SC, at WOT there is no sound at all...........

Like the difference between patterning my shot gun at the range and introducing myself to Mr. Gobbler on opening day.........For some reason I never hear the gun go off when I score my bird.

There must be some noise though, cause I get the drop-jawed-holeee-****e!!! response from bystanders when I launch Gretch........

Maybe I am concentrating on keeping the rubber side down too much.......

Here is the short story. My 928 was at the shop (was a Thursday or Friday) I was leaving for Road America after work.

I called down and said
"I don't care what it takes, chop off my muffler" (my resonator was already gone and replaced with a pipe a few years earlier)

His response was something like:
"It's going to be very loud, you will get pulled over"

I talked him into it, drove over after work to see the final install. He had some exhaust pipe lying around he fitted up into a tip from where the muffler originally attached.

We went for a drive. Under WOT, Oh My God, sounded like it had 400hp! I was VERY happy since on Saturday I was taking the car on the track.
To my suprise, on the highway in 5th gear doing 75mph, you cannot hear the exhaust at all. NO vibration, NO noise, nothing. Downshift and step on it, all hell breaks loose (well, it sounds like it, still slow as hell) In fact, at any speed under 100mph in 5th gear, it was very quiet, almost stock.

I will be installing MSDS Headers, pulling the cat and then I'll find out what a wide open 928 really sounds like. I'm 99% sure I'll be adding a muffler eventually. But not right away.

Ruf,

Actually, I was just wondering. I probably wouldn't do it since I like to keep a low profile. With the stock exhaust, it sounds stock except for a little whine. Under heavy acceleration, the rpm's increase a lot quicker, accompanied by a powerful whoosh from the exhaust. I like it.

Ron here " our purchasing agent " installed an Ott X pipe cat replacement and dual 2 1/2 pipes with two high flow mufflers (magna flows)and he gained about 29 horsepower with his 89 GT stock engine stock exhaust manifolds ...... if the stock exhaust is restrictive with a stock engine , what must it be doing to a blown one ?? (His car is track only)

Jim, I'd love nothing more than to do that, but I'd be asking for big trouble from the inspection ****'s up here. I expect that the bulk of his gains were from replacing the cats with the X pipe.
