Default Rear boot will not open

The hits just keep on coming..

just drove the car back from the shop. Rear boot is stuck closed. The key will not turn more than a quarter turn.

i noticed the wiper arms were not engaged with the drive plate. I have removed the motor and plate assy from inside the car.

what else should I try?

Pull down on the vertical brass lever with a pair of pliers to release the hatch; you will be lying on your stomach in the stuffy rear of the car and it will not pleasant.

If its an alarm lock try turning the hatch key counterclockwise first - while gently pushing down on the hatch - then try clockwise while also gently pushing down on the hatch. Probably worth jetting some graphite based lock lube in there too - its usually in an evaporating carrier so be liberal with it for the purposes of flushing out dirt/grit.

I could not find a brass lever. It is a manual latch, not an electric (1979).

But I drilled the hole and punched the cam to release the hatch.

i now have the receiver and key/latch in my hand

The white plastic latch does not retract all the way when the key is turned to the right. It moves about 75% of the way via the key which appears to be why the hatch will not release. But it will move all the way when pressed by hand.

I have to assume the guys at the shop didnt push the hatch down when unlocking it, and bent the release arm in the lock assembly.

Any simple way to repair this? I will have a ton of crap in the rear when moving. Cant really see myself unloading the entire kit via the front seat.

Maybe the release arm is different in the non alarm version but mine is cast metal and will snap rather than bend. You can remove the grub screw and twist the lock to remove it.
