Default hand brake problems

Hi

My 84 s2 auto just failed its test on a inoperative hand brake.

Basically when the brake is on the car will not move forwareds but it will roll backwards.

The brake shoes are new the discs have just been machined and the shoes and cable have been adjusted correctly.

It seems a weird problem as I thought when the lever was pulled up the car would lock in both directions.

any suggestions or help will be great

Cheers Tim

If what you say re the condition of the parts and adjustment level if the lever and cable, is true then some how the shoes have been installed improperly. Do you have the shop manual?

Be careful not to overtighten the handbrake cable, I did trying to compensate for a sticking shoe and I simply wore all the lining off another one.

I cant understand how the shoes could be installed wrong if the car locks forwards.

They have been adjusted as the manuals say

cheers
