Default Porsche 928 shifter

Good evening, I just purchased a 1985 928 that was a barn find that had been setting for 12 years, It is a automatic and the shifter is stuck in Neutral , any suggestions on what to do first to try to free it up, Thanks for your time.

Does the button on the side press in with slight resistance?
It goes in to push a vertical shaft down.

It should move from 'N' to 'D' & '3' at least, without pressing the button in.

My one car that was sitting had the end of the cable seize up. After a lot of soaking it in pb blaster and some persuading it came free again. You can pull it off the trans and move the selector lever to park.
