Hi,
I would recomend the replacement of the old circuit foil with the upgrade to Roger's at 928'sRus led circuit board.
I've done it and the old cluster comes back to live again!

Regards

Didnt know Roger did that? I just got a package sent as well with old school bulbs. Oh well next time. Probably not ready anyway.

For longevity this option looks interesting - looks to be well implemented. Flex boards will always get brittle with time & heat cycles. Anyone done this yet?

Just to avoid potential confusion, what is in the video is the Lutz conversion... which is what Roger sells. I took a close look at that and think it's very well done, although I decided to stick with conventional bulbs and original foil in mine. If I were to go the LED route, or if my flex foil suffers a catastrophic failure, I'd almost certainly go with the Lutz conversion because you get not just the LEDs but also eliminate the problems associated with age on the original flex foil.

Yes we have been selling this upgrade for about 5 years. Mainly for 82 to 84 cars and early 78 cars where the original foil is NLA.
The original foils for 79 to 81 and 85 to 88 are still readily available.

I did this a few months ago to my 79 euro. I documented it my “official” thread on the car. Although I have not reassembled the car yet, I did hook it up to test the lights...lit up quite nicely:

I used my own wire, although it came with black wire, I liked the colors and stiffness of the solid wire I had (18ga thermostat wire), and the ability to bend it to make it pretty...although it will never be seen....

What is the price of a Lutz compared to a replacement circuit board?

There is no comparison as they are NLA so the Lutz board is all that is available.
The Lutz kit for 78 and 82 to 84 cars (all) is $399.
The foil for the 79 to 81 cars is $330
The foil for 85 to 88 is a bargain at $199.99. Everyone who has a 85 to 88 car needs one of these in stock.
