I use 80/100 watt bulbs in my 8" H4's. They light up the road very well.
Legend has it that Ferry Porsche demanded that the car had 8" lights. This was very important to him. The Fed's had a different design in mind.
I don't see the issue with the link to the kit I posted. its not just H4 LED bulbs, its a kit that includes the correct lens/bucket. I would think that these buckets would reflect and focus the light in the correct way. I do understand that simply swapping H4 LED bulbs into buckets designed for incandescent bulbs is a problem....
I agree with you. I was talking about LED bulbs in incandescent reflectors.
I'm running these with the H4 Hella Glass option on 3 vehicles (Have two Beetles) and they look the business and stock. https://vintageleds.com
How is the beam pattern on low beam? Seems to be a lot of flare in the photo's but of course headlights are notoriously difficult to photograph in their natural (dark) environment. They certainly look like they belong (more than the DOT 7" ones even)
to close the loop on this thread: I installed the LED headlights in August, but never actually drove in the dark until this past Saturday. what I can say is this: the LEDs I installed are adequate. bright white light that certainly does not blind oncoming traffic. But, when compared to the amazing LEDs in my CL500, they don't come close. the Mercedes has the best lights I have ever experienced, so its a tough comparison. but for aftermarket LEDs that cost $129, I think they are fine.
Closing the loop to me means beam pattern pictures... be nice to see how that compares to a generally similar cost traditional ecode lenses with LED bulbs so that others can make an informed decision.
This topic is discussed so much on Rennlist that it was hard to decipher. Also, so many changes in products over the years, so I picked this one to read. I appreciate the straightforward info, Alan in post #14.
I ordered 7" Hella H4 E-Code headlights w/Optilux H4 9003 extreme white bulbs from Susquehanna Motorsports. Looking forward to before/after. Thanks again for the guidance!
Check out my thread on the Amazon 7" LED full headlights for jeeps. The performance of these lights is amazing. They look a bit non-stock, but they work so well, I can overlook that. I've tried all the options. Hella with HID, LED, etc....
Ordered from : www.susquehannamotorsports.com (They called on the phone, as the original bulb I ordered was on backorder to discuss options)
7" light, H4/9003 bulb
Straightforward removal. Cleaned/polished the rings, waxed cover, Doxit the plugs, wd-40'd the screws and adjustment screws.
Cleaning cart
Before(sealed 7")
After 7" H4
Headlights/bulb were $110.
Ordered CREE LED kit for headlight/fog/marker light from woodypeck.com
They should be here in 3 weeks or so. Steve from Woodypeck was very helpful and quick to respond to my questions. The upgrade from the 9003's installed is noticeable improvement over the sealed beam. Well worth the minimal expense. I'll be sure to add a pic once I do one LED to compare to the 9003 I have in now.
I've had exactly the opposite experience with WoodyPeck. Back in 2016, I sent him £237.40 for Front End CREE LED Bulb Upgrade kit and a Complete Rear LED Bulb Upgrade kit. Payment went through, he got paid and I never received my products. He then never returned my emails or calls about it. Then, just a week or so ago, I got a automatically generated receipt for the same thing. When I replied, I got: New Software update has sent out completed orders notices across all historic orders". I reminded him that he still owes me either the kits, or a refund. Again, the line goes dead. Consider yourself lucky.

Looks good, ive bought the hella ecode kit with bulbs and also ordered the front kit from Woodypeck.com. i also ordered the rear kit. Your right Steve was very helpful. I'll post pics soon as i receive and install.
@Zero Discipline i hope they got it straightened out. I've got 2 orders with them. Interior kit and front and rear kits. I paid with PayPal thru my visa card so if, knock on wood, they don't ship out I'll be able to get my cash back. But that will send me having to find an that again. 🤞
I replaced my Zenon bulbs in my headlights, fog lights and driving lights with LED bulbs from Headlight Revolution.
I read the posts from Petza914, and I agree with him, but, I must say, all bulbs are not the same. After installation, I spent time carefully checking and readjusting the aiming of each lamp.
I have now had time to do "back-to-back" comparisons by several miles on empty and dark sideroads.
Conclusion:
the LEDs are much better and much brighter. The light color is much closer to daylight, and more importantly, the light pattern is still very good .
very hard to tell the difference between the pattern from the Zenon incandescent bulbs and the Led bulbs.
Very happy with the results.
