Another common fail point of the foils is the rivets that hold the long pins that go into the back of the speedo.

That could be why you're still having issues. People generally solve this issue by carefully soldering them.

[QUOTE=khalloudy;16841767]Since tapping it brings it to life, I am almost certain it is an electric contact point failing. Could be the speedo itself (something inside it. Have you thoughts of disassembling the speedo and checking the circuitry in it? Maybe a failing solder point? Also an oscilloscope is useful at this moment.

Sorry to hear of all your troubles. Troubleshooting can be a bitch without local spares to test.[/QUOTE

yeh, it’s total fun. To add to this, the light on the speedo side of the dash is also intermittent now and is fixed with the same tap. I really wish I had left things well alone in the first place. I’m not keen on pulling the whole thing out for a third time, each time I do it I go deeper into the rabbit hole and create a bigger problem that didn’t exist before. I think it will be a job that’ll get down when something else fails and I have to go in.

I appreciate your assistance with this... ill get back to it when my patience returns :-)

yep, already did this, that’s how my problems started escalating and I ended up with having to buy a new foil. As it turned out, there was nothing wrong with the old one, I just messed it up trying to fix something that wasn’t broken. Anyway, I have a new foil and I’m not further forward... a little frustrating.
