Nope, won't do it. After having been involved in the planning and aftermaths of a couple OCIC's and other events, I have no desire to deal with the issues that arise before or after an event. Some people (cough) took the enjoyment out of that aspect once they thought they needed to see the books to find out who was making money off them, even after not paying a sponsorship to hawk wares.

How do you figure that? What wares would those be? We were working on my car and another car the entire time. Can't help it if a good many of my customers were there asking questions. Besides, I've sponsored plenty of events. I don't pull a 1 ton dully with a huge trailer in to a convention center, unload and ask to use tables I've not paid for, like the other sponsors.

I remember very well the effects of "Jerry Feather" claiming that Jim Mayzurk and myself were crooks and exploiting 928 owners at the successful events we (along with a lot of help) set up under the OCIC banner.
We arranged, and I sponsored, to the tune of thousands of dollars these events. Two in Wichita, one in Dallas and one International event in Canada. These were also backed up by the 928 OC. But after "Jerry Feather" wrongfully accused us of profiting from the arrangements of said OCIC in Wichita we (Jim & I) decided to never do it again.
That event cost way more than the registration revenue and sponsorship. I gladly covered the shortfall but was absolutely "gobsmacked" by the terrible insinuations made by Jerry feather that we stole the money from ourselves as the organizers. This was, as Jerry abused and used the venue, to promote his own wares with no monetary consideration or thanks to the organizers or sponsors.
That has always left a BAD taste in the mouths of many loyal local 928's who donated their time, effort and money to create some of the best 928 functions ever held. His spiteful rhetoric cost him his position in the 928 Owners Club but to this day he has never apologized to the group.
Bear that in mind when he says he will arrange a venue.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

We are looking for someone / or group to start planning for an event next year. We are open to all suggestions and want to make this event continue. Different place each year.
Trey as far as I am concerned I would travel from the snow country to Florida in April. Barring I do not run across a blizzard those dates. well enough time to plan for, and in case of bad weather I would just leave a few days in advance.

To get back on track, I am point for the 2022 PVGP for our purposes. I know we have lots of boots on the ground help here, and any 928 gang help will be appreciated. For those that don't know, I ran the Porsche participation in the PVGP event for our Club (ARPCA) for 5 years. It was a party for 500 of my best friends
Rick was very instrumental in helping, and we did some pretty good stuff. Otto and Robin were always there to help too. We brought in the real Janis Joplin 356 from the Cleveland R&R HoF before it later sold at auction, and more significantly in my book, we had a 40th anniversary celebration of the 928 and had both #1 and #6 here in Pittsburgh. So, the PVGP is a well established and highly organized event, as is the Porsche part, and the 928 part is on my plate - the best help will be for lots of sharks to show up and have some fun! As it gets closer to the time, we will start planning special shark events. There will be a dedicated thread to it, but not yet. Too far out. (I hope to see #1, #2, #6 and #11 all here - imagine what that would be - and maybe have them staged so people can have their shark photographed in with those 4 cars for a fee to raise money for the PVGP charities! It's going to be great).

1 - This event will continue to be held in a different region. each year. With the help from volunteers from that region.
A friend of mine in my local Peachstate PCA helped me make that final choice. Why not every year just move the event just like PCA Parade ?
2 - This event will never have a "vendor row".
I grew up on Motorcycles went to countless events year after year. I watched many great events get turned into giant flea markets. Ruined by the almighty greed. I cannot let Rendezvous 928 become commercialized. Anyone is more than welcome to deliver parts or discuss sales or promote theirselves. Just no vendor tables tents etc.. will ever be part of the event. Just for that one person, Obviously T-shirts are comemerative items
3 - This event will always be for OUR 928 community.
Self explained
4 - This event will try to continue to improve and become the event we all want to attend. But will not compete with Standing events if at all possible.
So here we are not just talking about it but doing it !
This year's event perfectly tied into Harvey Carlisle's brainchild "Sharks in the Badlands" I am honored to be part of this and it has worked out great for everyone involved. Next year's event will have more people to help construct and plan it and each year thereafter.
Most people know the story but for those that do not,
A little background about the event.
I put together the 1st Rendezvous 928 in Atlanta to celebrate the #1 being on display. At that time it was planned as a one time event not to be repeated or attempted to be. Everyone who has put events together knows the time dedication it takes to do these. I had a lot of help with that event yet I still had no plans to do it again. However at that event everyone had a good time and Lots of the attendees asked when's the next one ? So I found myself feeling conflicted about my initial decision not to do this again. It is This community that helped me decide I had to do this again and again.
The Next couple of event locations are
2021 somewhere in the North East. .
2022 PEC LA
not that locations cannot be changed buy that's the general plan.
To Everyone that has helped and everyone that will help this couldn't happen without you.

There's a real enthusiasm from @RSMartin and I for something around the Werks Reunion/Amelia Concours D'Elegance in Florida in April next year. Although, I guess a lot of folks consider Florida (Far Away).

so are you saying the 2022 PVGP won’t be a rendezvouse?
No not saying that. Just was putting out the original plan.
Didn't even have that event on a radar. First time I heard about it. But putting together an event at PEC takes a long time because of their policies. Let's side table this venue for a later discussion.

At no time did I say anything was rock solid and planned.
These events are for the community and will be for it's benefit. The event is a traveling event to be held in a different Region each year. Many people will not be able to attend events due to distance and time. That's why it will continue to move regions.
I am not sure if having next year's event in Colorado fits into that design.Geographically speaking Colorado is not that far from South Dakota.
As previously requested could we side table the next destination debate for the moment. I feel Harvey was asking who and or where we could look at and or talk to. My entry was to offer the framework and vision for the events.
All suggestions are appreciated and welcomed however there are plans and events that have already been set into motion.
As Answered to Linderpat I didn't know about the event changes ar PVGP that event was not on my radar.
This does sound like the type gathering we could feed off of
And it will be further discussed.

Thanks for the clarification. The PVGP is a well known event to many in this community, and I'll have a separate thread on it later. The 2022 PVGP event is a go (because Porsche is the MotY then), and I will be working to have as many sharks there as possible, hopefully even more than the 35 we had 2017 (which included #1 and #6). It is a pretty big event with lots going on, so you are correct, it is not exclusively 928 focused, although I plan to make a number of 928 specific focused events during the main weekend for the benefit of our group. If it doesn't fit the rendezvous vision, it may be an OCIC instead. Anyway, thank you for your efforts - these events take a lot of work and planning.

The vision is clear. Spread the events around the country. When I started this thread it was to get people thinking about next year. I had almost a year to plan my event, and even with the Covid 19 issues it still took time to work out details. So I was attempting to spark a fuse under someone to say I will take on the role next year and we can have it ????? As Scott mentioned to have it occur with a PCA event takes a long time and lots of negotiations. To be honest no one has every said only one event per year. Perhaps 2022 we have 2 events. Remember we are still in the growing pains with this idea "928 Rendezvous" and want our community to grow and to meet more of our fellow owners.
Jerry no one has ruled out GJ. We can discuss when you are up here. Our vision (Scott and myself) was to spread it around the country.
