Default Odometer or backup mileage reading?

Question. If my odometer is broken (ie. gear....etc), is there any form of backup where the mileage is still recorded. (1981 928 Auto).

Thanks,
Bob

Jim. Thanks. For some reason I though there was some sort of factory installed backup unit in the rear right side area for warranty verification if needed..............guess not.

And thanks!!!

some of the computers in the new cars have memory of all kinds of things like maximum speeds , speed just before the deployment of the airbags etc. and are quite useful for finding fault and liability ..........or voiding a warranty . The GPS tracking systems are even more "useful" .........

.....ah yes........GPS........some would say "big brother" could check your speed...etc........although no doubt on some of them in an emergency (ie. airbag deployment, 911...etc, its a great idea).

As long as you're on a roll. Is it the plastic gear that just wears most of the time. No doubt either way its pod removal time..

As always, Jim you're a wealth of knowledge.....

Oh I have to disagree there Jim. The factory installed three very important odometer backup devices into all Porsches. First was a steering wheel, next was a driver's seatbelt and lastly and most definitively ... driver's side seat bolster. :-)
