If installs on older s2 cars end up being reliable and dependable, these kits are going to sell like hotcakes. Sure, some people want to take their s4s into the outer limits. But there are many more s2 owners who are just dying for the extra power, without paying 4X what the car is worth to stroke the motor...

Keep in mind when you ramp the fuel pressure up like that you put a significant amount of stress on the fuel pump and the injectors, though it is for a short period of time...also you are asking the pump to deliver lots of volume at very high pressures, those two are at odds with each other.

It will be interesting to see what the torque curve looks like when all is said and done on an otherwise stock 4.5 liter.

The setup I am building should blow out 10 lbs of boost at 3000 RPM and build from there should I choose to do so from inside the car. The wheel on the turbo will be significantly more efficient than my IHIs are in the twin turbo becasue this is a 90s technology turbo, not a late 70s vintage unit.

A little competition is always good, right?

The stock fuel pump is not capable of making 170psi and from our experience there doesn't appear to be any significant stress on the fuel injectors used in my kits, even at that pressure. My standard kit allows the stock fuel pump to run within the specs listed by Bosche.

Tim,
With regard to SC'ing, where does the 84-86 Euro LH fall into the mix? Will that be a similar setup to the 80-84 currently in prototype? Thanks!

I think it will be very close to the 80-84 US cars but I have never personally seen one of the 84-86 Euro cars. Does someone have a closeup picture of the back of the intake with the air box removed? With a picture and a few measurements I might be able to determine if the intercooler design for the US cars will work or not. I currently don't have a solution for the 85-86US 32 valve cars with the huge intake but I will be working on it. I have one of these cars available to me to work with.

BTW, the first question I get asked from just about everyone interested in a Murf928 kit is "What is all included in the kit?". Well, this weekend I put together a complete list of all the generic parts included in my kits that I will make available to the public. If anyone would like a pdf copy emailed to them please send an email to:

Murf928@new.rr.com

I have a temporary website up, www.Murf928.com and the real website is getting very close to being finished. The real website will be much more professional with a lot more information, pictures, etc. I will make an announcement when it goes live.

Tim,
I can get you whatever pics and measurement you need. AFAIK, the Euro and US airbox are the same size. The major difference is underneath where the Euro has a MAF, and the US has the air flow meter (barn door?). I would say they are comparabile in size.
I would assume the fuel tuning would be different for the 84-86 Euro given it uses the MAF hot-wire. Probably more similar to the S4 setup you have.
Let me know what I can do to help. Heck, I'm sure you already have an 16V test subject, but if you would like an Euro test subject for the LH tuning, maybe we could work something out.

If you can get me a picture, that would be great. I would be looking to see if the top of the MAF is at about the same location as the top of the barn door (without the snorkle). If this is the case, the intercooler design I have will work out great. I actually like this intercooler design better than the 87 and later cars, too bad this won't fit on those cars.

If this car I'm working on now works out, and the intercooler would fit on your car, I would be very interested in talking with you about using your car as a test subject.

How far are you from Green Bay?

Default Some follow up pictures

I got down to tuning the fuel this weekend. Took Lag's advice and turned down the fuel pressure to the point where the AFM gauge is in the middle range (stoich (sp) ). That smoothed the idle down quite a bit, no more surging. The big cams in the GT make the vacuum adjustment on the FMU almost moot at idle......so some other form of management at the low rpm range may be necessary. My fuel pressure is pretty low at idle now, with the vacuum line attached to the FMU. When I remove the vacuum line the fuel pressure jumps right up, the engine runs rich and the computer cannot compensate causing the idle to surge. Attach the vacuum line and it settles right down.

I tightened the blower belt. Remembering the way we check tension on the timing belt is to see how much vertical flex we get on the edge of the belt. I am comfortable the belt is not over tightened, and the blower is making a bit more than 8 pounds........(I got out of it when it almost touched the 9 pound level).

This thing is an absolute monster. I took it out for a drive on Saturday morning. After I had it warmed up, I started off smoothly in first, shifted at about 3,500 rpm into second and then stood on it. When it hit 4,000 rpm it broke the rear tires (both of them) loose and left a trail of blue tire smoke up the road. I then took it up on the highway. Blew up the onramp in 3rd under about 3/4 throttle, shifted into 4th and stood on it. Watching the gauges.....fuel in the green, boost almost to 9, less than 10 seconds had gone by and she was pulling like a locomotive, but we were going by 125 mph very rapidly, so I backed out of it. jayzuss......This thing is an animal.

Tim,
I'll try to get you a pic or a reference mark measurement.

I live in mid-state Michigan, lower penn.
So it would be around 7hrs via Chitown, or 5-6hrs via ferry from Ludington, Mi, to Manitowoc. I plan to use the SS Badger for my trip to Road America for Labor Day.

bc I think you are talking about the Vacuum plumbing routing sticker I installed on the AWIC.......yes?

The A/C charge sticker goes on the top of the radiator on the passenger side. That sticker is on the way to me by mail. I will install it where it belongs when I get it.

I can just imagine the look on the faces of the grease monkey's when you tell them you installed an industrial A/C setup. With that sticker, it just might work!

Your car looks awesome!
