My zinc platers will not touch cadmium plated parts unless they come to them after being glass bead blasted.

I shoot all the zinc plated parts with clear matte finish paint. Looks like cadmium. Lasts longer, too.

Default Recent results of plating headlight reflectors

To be honest, I'm not sure what process they used, but came out nice.

Holy smokes! Do you mind sharing who did the plating work? I have a set of H4's needing this as well.

I got mine done here: https://www.reflektorklinik.de/

Don't be intimidated by the fact that the site is in German. You can communicate with them just fine in English through email.

Mine came back great and for far less than what people charge here in the U.S. even with the overseas shipping.

Got them done at Wayne's Chrome and Plating in Fredericksburg, VA. Took a long time, over 4 months! (Due to them running out of some chemicals), but the result looks great. Typical turnaround time is usually 8-10 weeks.

funny stuff and great looking stuff. TALK ABOUT EXTREME

My question would be with all these great looking nuts and bolts DOESN'T THAT MESS WITH THE TORQUING REQUIRED TO SNUG THESE UP???

Seems it just changes the friction or holding ability

Interesting! think the process changed at all from 77-95? that process probably was used by other manufacturers of the era. Getting someone to replicate the process could present another challenge.

It may be that ‘77 was Cad. It is certain in my mind that ‘95 is not. Cadmium plating was forced out (except for Military) of “casual” use in Europe in the 80s. This from several folks that should know.

As for replicating… we might have to start with some NOS and mass spectrometry.
