I must admit, I don't own a 928 myself — yet. So my reasons for registering lie elsewhere...
In 2008, Hugo, the father of one of my best friends Cedric passed away. He had a marine blue 1988 928 S4 automatic, which the family sold after his death. But no trace ever since...
About two years ago, Cedric tells me he would love to find his father's Porsche again, and who knows some day buy it back. He even shares copies of the car's papers with me.
I never did something with that information, until today. I've started searching for Hugo's Porsche, under the radar for now, as I would love to be able to surprise Cedric one day, when I actually found it.
So, I've been contacting the importeur in Belgium, I've contacted a Porsche dealership, I've registered with 928oc.org and I've presented this 'case' on Belgium's leading car forum.
What I found out: the car only had one vehicle inspection in Belgium, in 1995. So that makes me believe that it either is hidden in someone's barn, that it's not in Belgium anymore or that it would be perte totale. Let's hope for the first two.
I can share the chassis number: WPOZZZ92ZJS841541. I know that it's a marine blue - marine blue Belgium delivered 1988 S4 automatic with sunroof.
Can you help me find this particular 928? How would you proceed if you were me?
And is this the best place in the forum for this topic?
What a thoughtful thing to do. Since Schengen, there is probably little resistance to that car being anywhere in the European Union. My guess is that it has indeed travelled outside of Belgium.
One thing I can share with you is that these quests can take years. When you do find it, it will have been well worth the effort. After an 8 year chase, I found my friends dad's 1959 Ferrari 250 LWB and what a fun re-union it was!
I'll share the VIN with a guy that helps me find "lost cars" here is the U.S.. Hopefully it will turn up closer to your home.
Yes. This is the place to post this question. You are not the first one to do so, but you are the first European, AFAIK.
I have no clue what services are available over there, but here in the US we have a couple that track car info. CarFax is the most common.
They keep track of reports of registration, inspection, work that gets reported to them (not all does), that sort of thing.
It sounds like you may have done something like that.
Is there any way you can find the last registered owner? That would obviously be the best place to start.
There are a few truly dedicated folks on here. The current situation may mean that they are busy doing actual important things.
Or...
They may be sitting safe at home, chomping at the bit for something interesting to do.
If it were me, after exhausting attempts to locate the car on my own and present the information as a surprise to my friend, I would go ahead and tell my friend that I would like to assist him in his desire to find the car. It might be that he has no true interest in actually finding the car, or not enough interest to have actually started to search. The most obvious thing to do is for you both to speak with the family members that were involved in the sale of the car, there could be records of that sale or other information that would identify the new owner, and if it were then resold that owner could help find the next and so on.
I'm currently waiting for an answer from a Porsche dealership to point me towards someone at the importer who would have sold it to the family when it was new. Chances are that the family probably contacted them after his passing... There's always the possibility of checking with the family if they have more info, but as far as Cedric goes, that's all he had.
I did find something similar like that AutoDNA thing, and that's something I would like to keep open as an option as well.
This car does not belong, to my knowledge, to a member of the Porsche Club 928 de France. You could aks the Porsche Club 928 of Netherlands and Germany.

OK, thank you.
I have registered with both the Dutch and German club, and am waiting for a confirmation e-mail.
