Greetings all. Brand new here and I’ll apologize ahead of time as I’m sure my issues will be redundant and in addition I’m just learning to navigate the forums and site itself. Here goes...just came across a 1988 s4 that looks to be legit from original owner with about 70k. Car has been sitting for years and previous owner stated that it just wouldn’t start one day. Dropped it to the only mechanic I’ve heard of here in Eastern Long Island that knows anything about them. He got it running and stated it was the fuel pump. Replaced that. Car will now start right up but will stall out especially when throttle is hit. He stated that he believes its the mass air flow sensor but cannot find one from dealer or anyone on his “network”. Not sure that his “network” has too many 928 guys in it though. Question is does it sound like it is the mass air flow that will cause the current condition and if so where might a new guy find a replacement or is it possible to get one rebuilt? Thanks for any help. Pbrett

Welcome to the tank!
Panos "Pete" Krassas (elgreco on Rennlist) is a well known 928 mechanic on Long Island. Send him a PM or find him on Facebook in the 928 Docs group. I met him a couple of years ago at Camp 928 - excellent guy.
Your problem could be a dozen things, MAF among them. 928 MAFs are usually not available at any price but they are rebuildable by John Speake, a frequent Rennlist poster.
Jeannie and Dave (DR) at 928 Specialists, Roger Tyson (ROG100) at 928srus, and Mark Anderson (Mark Anderson) at 928 International all will return your call promptly, sell you all the parts you need, and give you excellent advice.
Also, to spare yourself some hazing, you should 1 - read the newbie thread and 2 - post a photo. Good luck!

You can try disconnect the MAF and it should run better with default setting. If confirmed MAF, find Euro E34 M5 MAF as it is the same or rebuild by several source on here. I used Injection Lab for testing/confirmation and quick rebuild turn around.

If you need a MAF the best place is https://www.performance928.com/products.html
Louie sells JDS rebuilt MAFs and LH. I can attest to the quality as I have both.

Louis and John are first class! I know from personal experience.
Congratulation on your find! Post a few pictures of the car. And good call by your mechanic for getting her running again. How long was it sitting without starting?
