Mystery Harness
Anybody know what this 14 pin (12 pin?) harness next to the jump point in the engine compartment is/does? When I was doing the timing belt procedure, I had to take it off and the plastic broke. After I repaired it, I did my best to reassemble correctly, but what kinds of things could be wrong if I got it wrong? Anyone know where a description is in the repair manual?

Hello Again Doug,
I new what that junction box was at one point, but have forgotten. I'm sure someone here will know.
I do have a comment though. Your picture does not show the black plastic cover and screw on cap for the pos jumper point (down and to the left of pic).
Have you not installed them yet?
If you don't have them, get them from the dealer when you can (not expensive). You can inadvertently short this Positive post to any ground near by and cause serious damage.
Part #'s
928 612 073 00 (cap)
928 612 871 02 (cover)
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the response Mike. I do have the plastic covers, I took them off to try to get a good picture of the harness. Thanks for the words of caution.

That connector is where the engine harness links to the body wiring harness. If the pins are not correctly connected the brains and other systems do not send and receive the proper signals.

David,
Thanks for the info... I'm starting to wonder if I have fouled up this harness when I pieced it back together and it's the culprit in my other problem...

Look on 97-275 as well. The "KS2 harness" info is scattered throughout the '87 diagrams. You may need to resort to matching up colors. Careful though - lots bad stuff could happen if you cross a couple of wires. You may also have not quite gotten one of the pins properly seated - its hard to do once those connectors frag. I *think* you can buy replacements for the black plastic part. Find someone with an unmolested '87 to give you a read off of the colors and locations?

I also confirmed that 8,11,12 are open on the connector on my '89. Lastly, I replaced the KS2 harness on the '89 and can confirm that the intake temp sensor is on that harness.

Guys, I can't thank you enough. I believe you've solved my problem!
I pulled the harness apart to verify the wires and one was pinched. I straightened the wire and my overheat warning censor no longer comes on after a while.
The only bad news is that the harness is now broken. I've put the male plugs directly into the females for now and will see if 928 Intl has a replacement harness.
I'm going to cross-post this to the other thread as you've lead me to the solution.

The harness costs about $240 and will take several hours to replace. If the only problem you have is the pin socket then see if you can get that replaced.
