Default Help with a stubborn engine stand, please?

Hello !
My trusty engine stand has always performed without a problem. It hasn't been abused, etc, and there are no leaks from the crank mechanism.
I just got my engine up on the stand yesterday, as seen,
but when I try to rotate the engine, it seems that the hand crank on the engine stand "disengages" when I reach 90 degrees (valley to the side, horizontal)
in either direction, left and right. It won't crank on "through" to allow full rotation, it seems only to "slip",
but it will easily re-engage and allow the engine to crank back up into the "valley-up" position as seen.
I tried my best to get the mass of the engine centered on the axis of rotation of the stand...
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Have a great evening...
Dan

Are we talking about the engine stands that use a crank to spin the engine?

I have two Jegs stands with a crank - made China and the worm gear will not play well in the long term. Pull the backing plate and turn the handle and you will see the worm gear and the crank will not engage at some points.

Shift the weight of the engine onto the direction you're cranking.

Mine does the same thing and it seems that there is some play in it that allows it to rock back and forth a bit.

It also gives it a dead zone while cranking where it feels like there is no weight and it is "disengaged".

Thank you gentlemen. I will force one of my children to turn the crank while I support/coax the weight.
That way, if something goes wrong, I can blame them ha ha.
