Anyone use Redline ShockProof?
I was wondering if any 928 owners have used Redline ShockProof gear oil in either their transmission or differential and with what results. Thanks.

No, but I've used the castrol synthetic gear oil and dextron III with good results. There is a definite difference from what was in there. The shifting is much smoother.

Hi,
Castrol has been a World leader in transmission/gear oils for a very long time
Castrol's "Syntrax" synthetic 75w-90 gear oil is an excellent product and has been around for many years - I use it in my heavy trucks where it lives for 700k+ (miles) and in the diff of my S4. It works wonders with low temperature gear selection and is best at very high temperatures - itis coloured red
Castrol's synthetic ATF "Transmax Z" is probably the best fluid available and has been around for many years. It seems and ideal ATF for the 928 - it is coloured clear/green
Contact Castrol-BP in NA for their equivalents - its well worth the effort
Regards

Hey Doug,
I have recommended your write up on lubricants to basically anyone I know who can read and loves their car. Just a great article.

I use Shockproof in my '79 Euro track beast. The transaxle is an '85 model. It works great. It was recommended by a shop that cares for 911 cup cars and the owner said it is the only transaxle oil that he uses.
It is crazy red, looks like your car is bleeding if you have a leak.

Heirich, I have LSD and have added nothing to the Shockproof. My LSD works just fine ... no problems. The shockproof has been in the transaxle about 1 season so far.
A while ago I stopped at the shop that recommended Shockproof. One of his 911 cup car customers was in. He changes out all the Mobil 1 and drains the transaxle after each event. Wow, add that expense to tires and brakes.

For those that use Shockproof:
1) Are you using 100% Shockproof or a blend with another oil?
2) If 100% Shockproof, how are the synchros affected?
3) Which grade of Shockproof (Superlightweight, Lightweight or Heavy)?
Thanks.

Flott,
I just put the heavy shockproof in my 89GT...
That stuff is blood red.....kind of like a strawberry slushie.....Heck..between the engine oil - Amsoil (red), ATF power steering fluid - red, and the shockproof (red)....I won't be able to figure out what is leaking ha ha ha...
Anyway, I am using 100% heavy. my impressions after having driven it about a couple of 100 miles...
When its cold the heavy is too much..(cold being 40F and lower). makes shifting notchy and the old fluid (assume it was standard 75-90 gear oil) was better.
When the car is up to temp, it is very smooth and all shifts are great..feels like the shifter actuallly gets sucked into the gear ;-). Haven't noticed any difference in the LSD operation..
Hitting the track this weekend (our Track Attack VII in Spokane) and will let you know how it does at high temps...
I put in the heavy because I don't drive the GT daily (more of an occasional/track/DE car). If I did use it every day, I personally would use the lightwieght to improve the cold shifting.
HTH...
