Default French opinions on the 928 in 1977

For those without FB.
Picture an image of rural France in 1977. People drive Renault 4's and lead a simple life. Hard work, little play, not much to spend on things not necessary. The elderly play Petanque while discussing life and politics, often resulting in strong discussions. I remember this time because it was my youth as well (but in the Netherlands).
No SUV's storming up in your rear view mirror and filling up parking lots. Cars are much smaller than now, weighing approx 700 - 1000 kg and have a boxy, angular shape, sometimes even with little fins on the back from older cars like a Mercedes, only 10 years old than.
And here comes the Porsche 928, all rounded and smooth, with pop-up headlights. A little intimidating when you hear and see it coming close. It is something to talk about while socialising in the village (no internet, you actually joined a group of people outside to talk).

You may need a dictionary watching this little movie from France, 1977

The car is Jim Doer's #6 press car.

This car has been living in my garage for a couple of years now. Jim still owns it, but my storage situation keeps it safe, warm, dry and tidy.

And no, he does not seem interested in selling... ;-(

Cool to see it in action!

Thanks for sharing!

Great video, thanks for posting it! Jim, you have to love this. I liked it all but especially the demo of the Weissach axle, hadn't seen that before.

Last December, I posted a little diddy about this on my website blog here. There's a little tongue-in-cheek humor, and it also contains the full video and some notable still shots.
I particularly like the jump sequence, which they would've needed to practice a few times. In one image frame, all 4 wheels are off the ground. And in another, you can actually see sparks!
Another notable frame shows a sign for the Hotel Mas d'Artigny, where the first 928 press launch was in session.
My favorite thing about this video is I believe it to be the first known rolling footage of any 928!

Special thanks to Christian C. and Porsche Club 928 France for sending this video to me.

I don't speak much french other than "Je suis messieur van der Lee" and : "Le nourriture est delicieuse". So I was curieus to know what was in the subtitles. I can't translate what they are saying but google translate helped me with the subtitles. The french are a bit sceptical it seems, mostly because they can't see any of them driving this type of car. All in all, it's just like a short play, staged on a village square. So nice!

Les villageois , le curé et la Porsche 928
The villagers, the parish priest and the Porsche 928

The parish priest and the villagers are skeptical but the Porsche enthusiasts quiver in front of the 928

Unlike the old ones, its engine is placed at the front

Elle est bien, mais ca marche pas
It is good, but it does not work

It's too powerful for the roads we have here

The headlights even allow you to wink

They retract and the beam is adjusted in motion

Comfort and ease of driving are becoming more and more important

Mais le cote sportif est tojours present
But the sporting side is always present

On est tout de meme chez Porsche
We are all the same at Porsche
