About to pull off the brakes for rebuild, paint and new brake lines so wondering what the original color of the calipers and frame were (as well as the splash shields.) There are remnants of black paint on the calipers now but one of the previous PO's may have hit them with a rattle can at some point so I thought I'd check here before going black again as I can't find anything via Google/forum search.

I did a bit more searching and saw that at least the pre-S3 cars had bare metal calipers and I was leaning black anyway so black it is.

If I pull the front hubs to get at the shields can I just reinstall or do I need to replace the rear hub seal? Bearings were replaced a couple thousand miles ago if that makes a difference, wish I would have thought of it then.

the inner hub seal will stay on the hub so you can put the hubs back on
NOTE the inner bearing will be captured by the inner seal.
