Incredible Private Supercar Collection in Miami

With all due respect - when the 991.2 Turbo S came out my local Porche Centre loaned me a car for a weekend - in return they wanted my 996.1 GT3 CS in their showroom. I enjoyed the performance of the 991 a lot, but overall it left me totally stone cold. It is not a 911 - I came out of it wondering whether I had stepped out from the family bus at the time - a BMW E61 M5 Wagon - yes, the family load lugger fitted with one of the craziest normally aspirated engines ever to grace the Earth.
The 991 is so big and so composed and so neutered in the visceral thrills department that I have zero hankering after one. As a daily - yes, it will be immense. However, I may as well buy the new 4x4 M5 - more all round abiluty and almost as devastatingly fast point to point in real life...

1. Collecting more than one car - Check
2. Collecting more than one 928 - Check
3. Driving a 991.1 911 Turbo as a daily summer car - Check
4. Driving a big heavy 4x4 with moar power than seems reasonable - Check
I'm a car lover and fortunately so is my wife. Owning these things is fun and rewarding to us in many ways. We put a bunch of miles on cars and it is easy to see what our choices are simply by keeping track how many miles we put on each vehicle.
In the real world - the Cayenne Turbo S takes the mileage victory with the Cayenne Turbo solidly in second. The 911 Turbo comes in third and the collector cars struggle to burn a tank each during the summer months.
I disagree that the 911 Turbo is "so big and so composed and so neutered the visceral thrills department" (but mine is a 991.1). If anything, this monster is an absolute thriller! It's visceral limits are adrenaline laced and take you so far into legal risks you have to be absolutely on your game to drive it anywhere near its limits. On the track? WOW get coaching and learn what is possible...
Back in the day, I drove 928's as dailies for many years. They were immensely practical supercars and represented the pinnacle of the automobile kingdom (to me) and like others reading this forum, 928's represent the most beautiful car ever built.
Now, which car would I drive if say I wanted to go to California or Florida comfortably in nice weather? Well, that's easy... that would be a 928! Because no car ever built is as comfortable as a 928 for long trips on open roads, in traffic or just about anywhere...
There's my .02

There is something TOTALLY unappealing and unattractive about this kind of wealth... Spoils the whole thing for me... Collecting cars like that... I have more respect to a child who works a paper route like crazy,,,, with passion,,,, to build up his or her marble collection.
This kind of wealth is off putting and ruins it 😔
That's just me...
I would guess that there is something that the owner of these cars does that destroys life and planet... Having a negative effect on quality of life for others.

The owner of Ikonick is Barry Skolnick. One of hundreds of his philanthropic projects, The Skolnick Surgical Tower Mount Sinai Miami:

He's a real estate developer, and he breeds championship horses. I guess the horses are an issue for the planet with all of the methane that they produce changing the climate and all. He's a bad, bad, man.

Who's spewing? Not me...
Don't assume...
Peace Brother. But I do know myself.

How do you know how I feel about "development", an intentionally impossible word to nail down,,,, or about "philanthropy", remedies for problems rather than fixes,,, or horse racing for that matter - me, from a family of farmers... And no, it's not methane, lol...

Oh... And I'm sorry about the 2 PMs... I thought it would be better, civil, and not interfere with the thread.. Apologies. Won't happen again.

Maybe this thread should be moved to P&C?

Frankly, I am happy to live in a world where one can have FU money and do whatever he wants with it. I love seeing a beautiful mansion, or a fine exotic car collection. I like knowing that a person can work hard, make smart decisions and keep what he earns and use his wealth to satisfy whatever itch he has. A guy like that wouldn't give a rat's behind about what either you or I think about it either. You simply come across as judgmental and sanctimonious, and maybe even a bit jealous. That is off putting and unbecoming.

So by me having a 78, 79, 80, an 81 gets your approval, but if I had two 80's instead of the 80 and 81 that wouldn't be ok?
See how fun opinions are? I'd never want such a car for a daily driver, feels like a waste. Unless I was in a position where I could only own one car, no exceptions. But that's not the case.

As for the marble collection analogy, there's probably a kid in their circle of friends without the means or the ability to earn enough money to have such a marble collection of their own and dreams of a day when they can afford such things. Reminds me of a friend in grade-school, he had two paper routes but his parents made him donate most of the earnings to the church and what was left over went into the family collection. Highlight of his week was coming over to my house to play Nintendo I bought with the money I earned mowing lawns.

Now here is the ultimate collection that can't be bought. At least a small part of the whole collection on display. There are cars in warehouses all over Holland that are part of the collection. https://www.louwmanmuseum.nl/ The museum is so large, you walk for over a mile. There is so much one of a kind pieces of history, I could have spent days in this place learning about each unique model.

Me, personally, me... I am not and never have been attracted to gluttony.... For me,,, in lessons that I have learned from teachings and practices that seem central to near all the worlds faiths are lessons that examine gluttony, hoarding, consuming and possession of more than one needs - and resisting that temptation at all costs. I didn't make it up,,, the stories and lessons are age old and many... 1000's of examples. Movies, books, cartoons and TV. 7 deadly sins. And all that good stuff. Came before me.
I don't cheer gluttony...praise it, honor it nor am I attracted to it. Cars, jewels, houses - what have you... Nor do I believe it brings happiness, content, sense of accomplishment, or self worth etc
One of the MAIN motivators (maybe a twisted rationalization?) in working on and owning my machines is that massive amounts of time, energy, wisdom and experience went into producing them... The amount of heat, material and resources that went into each one,,, to me,,, means that they should never just be junked. For me, it challenges the notion that we live in a disposable society and that, for me, I would prefer to restore and reuse something (especially this thing) rather than just discard it and get the next shiny thing...
More,,, for me,,, if I couldn't and wasn't doing the work myself, it wouldn't be the same thing by any stretch of the imagination. Hiring people? If I had "workers" doing the work,,, yeah, no... Not for me.
But,,, as I said before - that's just me.

As said already, this is an amusing lack of common good sense, and an interesting case of throwing money out of the window... just because he can. Good on the people who benefit from it, but ultimately sad for the guy who is apparently quite lonely in his neurosis.
