Question S3 & S4 Intake manifold

Hi,

Does anyone know if an S3 intake manifold bolt pattern aligns with an S4 head? In addition, is the S3 intake Magnesium, or Aluminium..?

Thanks,

Richard

Basically the same on the intake to head ...the s-4 block lacks the proper mounting points to locate the center of the intake/throttle body ...

if you are interested I would be willing to trade you an S3 intake for your S4 intake if it is of course in good condition (ie not melted in engine fire)
I wouldnt care about the finish seeing as I would be powder coating it myself, fire me off an e-mail if interested

Hi Jim,

I am actually only concerned with the part that bolts to the head, as I plan on fabbing up a custom setup for a supercharger..

So, if I got that correctly, the S3 intake manifold ports will bolt up directly to an S4 head using stock intake gaskets....?

Richard,
What did you end up doing about pullies? I talked to the guy that is making mine and he didn't think it would be worth it for you to have him make a single pulley for you, even after I told him the prices you were quoted.

Richard,
The ports on the 85-86 manifold are more oval while the S4 ports are more round. 85-86 manifolds ports won't quite match up w/ S4 head ports. The 85-86 manifold ports would be a little narrow but could probably be rounded out a little.
You may also consider using 2 944S2 manifolds. The 944S2 head is basically the same as the S4 head. I'll bet they are aluminum, and weldable. FWIW my welder said he was able to weld magnesium by "keeping plenty of gas on it". From the questions you are asking it seems that you are following the same logic I was when I started my project. Please keep us informed of your progress and best of luck to you.
