Ugh, that's almost the entire problem. The alternator for my year has been superseded by the Valeo (P/N: 928 603 114 01), and requires the shroud+cooling line, correct? There are other options like the Bosch AL325, and Bosch AL115, for a Paris-Rhone that appear to be sufficient amperage, though it is rather vague on the appropriate cooling requirements for each. Can I get away with literally any of these? It is not in my budget yet to go with the upgraded alternators that have been supplied around here.

For the early year models, there is a gm alternator that is a suitable replacement. Search gm alternator on the forum. It has a higher amperage , built in cooling and not very expensive. You could also loom st rebuilding your current alternator as well.
