Screws in side panel next to rear hatch
Hi guys,
My '87 S4 finally went to the painter last week after having done a ton of work to empty out the engine bay and inside of the car.
Here are a few pics:
Empty engine bay with some collision damage visible on the front left corner:
I used an old engine carrier and old steering rack:
The refurbished front suspension with new rubbers, shocks and springs:
On it's way to the painer:
At the painer, awaiting his "all seeing eye":
Two days ago I went over there and we took the rear hatch of the car.
After doing so, we also decided to remove the screws that are in the side panel next to the rear hatch. The top ones I know are for installing a roof rack, and having them out I noticed there is a paper gasket underneat these screws that is not mentioned in PET:
I was confident that Roger probably would know exactly what they were, but I wanted to try to find out myself first () so after running the part number of the screw thourgh Google I found the gasket in de 944 PET:
I am still left with 2 questions:
1. What is the part number of the screw that is at the end of the side panel? And what is it's use? It appears to have some sort of plastic or silicon layer on it:
2. There is a small rubber plug on the bottom at both rear corners of the rear hatch. I can't find them in PET, and I ripped one on removal. Anyone have an idea of the part number?
Thanks again for any help...!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Manfred

The screw at the bottom edge of the hatch is for the rear spoilers that mount on the quarter panels covering part of the windows.
They probably put that there to seal that area of the metalwork from water so the threads don't corrode. Put a dab of silicone on it and reinstall it.

It makes sense, but the screw is probably not used installing the rear spoiler? I previously checked the relevant PET page but all the mentioned screws have a different size or shape.
Thanks for the reply! I will reinstall the original screws with proper and abundant protection…..
