Question Dayco belts?

Anyone had any experience with belts from Dayco?
I am currently looking for a timing belt, and a Dayco-made is the easiest to get here.

The only Dayco belt I've had any experience with was on a Yamaha snowmobile....Excellent wear properties lasted a long time.... the company has been around a long time....I hope this helps, good-luck......

Thanks for the reply Bill.
I found the text "DAYCO Aftermarket" on my alternator-belt so I think I will go for another brand with the timing-belt. On the lookout for a Gates-belt now

Opti - Belt and Conti provide a full line of top quality belts, as do Pirelli...
I have all Opti-belt on an '88, all conti on an '80 - nothing but good performance from either, and they should be readily available to you.

Hi Gosbollen:

Welcome to Rennlist!

Have you considered asking "the big three" 928 parts dealers for what brand of belt they offer? Since they sell so many, they should know best wich one works, and which one doesn't.

www.devek.net
www.928intl.com
www.928gt.com

I have to honestly tell you it never occurred to me to ask for the brand of my timing belt. I assume that the mechanics who put them in know what works and lasts, and won't put anything in that doesn't. In fact, I wasn't even aware there ARE different brands for the timing belt!

The only thing I know is that I would never ever buy a used timing belt on ebay...

I wish you best of luck!

Hi again Nicole
As I said on the www.pff-online.de forum I wish to buy as much as I can in Europe due to taxes and customs. If I order from the US I will end up paying 30% more than original price + shipping.

As for which belt I should choose, I have come to understand that as long as I pick one from either Gates, Optibelt, Conti or Pirelli, I'll be "safe".

I'm also kind of worried about getting a "11 years old new belt". By that I mean a belt that has been lain on a storage shelf for over a decade.

Hi Gosbollen:

Oh yes, an 11 year old "new" belt would not exactly be good news...

I understand your duty and tax situation. I'm sure there are good resources in Europe where you can get parts for reasonable cost.

Have you heard about these guys in The Netherlands?

http://www.v-zweeden.com/ned.htm

Have you asked other swedisch 928 owners about where they get their parts? "sweanders" posts a lot on this board, and since he owns multiple Porsches, he might have some good local contacts...

Then there is Vilhuer, who is fixing up a 928 GTS in Finland.

Or, in the off-topic board, there are Miraculix and Jober, who own 993s in Sweden, and graham_mitchell, who is located in Denmark and also owns a 993.

BTW: I don't post in the PFF anymore. But you can always find me here...

So far I have found what I need for my service around here.
The only things that I ordered from US was the parts needed to rebuild the tensioner + the aftermarket belt-tension tool.

I haven't asked the Swedish 928 owners where they get their parts. But by reading the Swedish forums it seems like most people use a mechanic. The DIY's order from the US.

Haven't heard about those Dutch porsche-people before.
All links/Url's to resellers in Europe are gladly received

If you try eurocarparts, They sell the dayco belt, I got one a month ago, its fitted and seems to be fine. I questioned e c p after it was delivered because it has a different profile to what i was expecting, they put me on to there porsche man who told me they supply to dealers and individuals alike and have had no returns or problems (but then he would say that).
At £70 plus £8 delivery its not cheap, but it is a 928.
