Jim, how hard would it be for one to buy a '84+ hatch latch w/release and bolt it in place... and wire a release switch up? That was one of the things on my list.

The remote hatch release is part of the lower receiver and you would also need a motor , relay , and fuse plus the switch . Not very difficult .

Jim - Thanks.
You would have thought with all of the engineering that went into this car, a rear hatch release would have been included. Tho I guess creature comforts like that were not what the engineers had in mind.

I have just procured all the parts to install the remote hatch release on my 79. Seems that alll you have do do is drill a couple of mounting holes for the actuator, swap out the receiver, run some wire, connect to two power sources (actuator & switch) and install the switch.

I believe the relay is built into the actuator unit as there is a fused power wire and 12V switch wire.

I wll let you know how it goes
