Hi guys
My 79 S is on the way to be inspected soon. Much work left to do to get the magic TÜV badge...
Unfortunately I have noticed that the reverse/Backup lights do not work. From what i read so far this could be connected to the chime and interior lights not working as well? Does the 79 have the chime already?
I checked the fuses and the continouity in the emergency Tire well - so far so good.
Anything else I could check?
Any way I could "artificially" supply voltage to the backup lights, so that it works for the jnspection at least?

Auto or 5 speed?
Not 100% sure about the early cars, but later ones had a relay for the autos and a relay bridge in the CE panel for the 5 speeds.

The relay would activate the backup lights.
Manual transmissions have the switch built into the transmission. No relay needed, there's a relay bridge piece in the CE panel.
Autos have the switch in the gear selector (I think) and it then activates the relay.
Not sure which one it is in the 79. My 85 has a fairly different CE layout.
I'm not aware that the headlight chime, interior lights & backup lights are related.
