Default Spring is here

So, I was changing the ATF oil / filter on my 92’ GTS with the A28/18 30 automatic transmission, and found this spring, or part of a spring in the sump.

Where does this spring belong? I take it that its #17 in the parts drawing.

The most likely location I can find is here:

Any pointers?

Oki, did you order the correct replacement spring from Porsche, or did you use a generic spring?

Sorted. Found a spring on the 88’ autobox I have in pieces in my workshop.

Cheers...

Installed. Happy days.

Good to know. I guess there are quite a few running around without this spring. Makes me wonder if there is noticeable difference...

What is the function of this spring? Does the trans behave differently when it is removed?

I would replace it with a new one. Since they fail often it may be worth the couple day wait rather than putting spring shards in the pan.
