Default 79 928 starter bushing..broken in pieces??

Hi guys. Replaced starter due to a bad starter or was it? Purchased new starter and installed it. New starter starts grinding and sounded terrible. I look under the car and find 1/4 of a circle of a pot metal material bushing. Figured it must of fell out of engine bay somewhere and was an old piece. Few days later had add some time and cranked it again and heard a tinnie metal sound drop under car. I look and another 1/4 of a circle from a metal bushing. Start looking online and find it is a starter bushing. I have not removed starter again but I assume I will be looking for the other 1/2 of a circle missing from bushing in the fly wheel. So I assume these pieces are falling out of some kind of open ins po section flywheel cover? Also I found the tinnie pot metal brass color bushing online for sale but h oh w does it install? Is it pressed into the end of the starter where the bendix gear is or into a small hole in the starter case? Thank you guys for the help in advance.

Return the starter under warranty. Where did you get this one?

Hi. Yes it has a warranty. I purchased it from RockAuto. I have not removed it yet so cant say it caused the problem or were these pieces already in the flywheel area from my old starter. I just cant find anything that shows where this broken bushing should be..mounted into starter or mounted into the housing that holds the starter. Thank you for the reply.

Dont think our starters have a Bendix drive - all pre-engaged, hence the external solenoid.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. That is right.. thought about that after you mentioned it. Maybe a seal around the nose of the starter?
