Recently, one of the hose couplings failed, and if the car had been lifted higher, it would have tipped off the lift. I had to have new ones sent, plus new pads for the motor unit because the little rubber ones that came with it broke off. They sent the wrong parts for the foot pads - not even pads at all. So I called to get that rectified and got nothing but attitude from the smug CSR. They want me to take a picture of what I got and what I need and send them that then they'll send me the right ones - more delay and bullsh!t. These little pads are like 15 cents - they should just toss some in a bag and send them out.

Anyway - I am glad I have my lift bars, and they are going nowhere!
Wow that's a terrible experience. I'm glad you posted this because I've been considering buying a set as I need a way to get my car safely lifted up on my 4-post lift to do my trans swap and TT rebuild. My local Costco recently had them on sale for $963.

I will still use mine, but the customer service sucks, and the quality issues over such a short period of time have been very disheartening.

Costco dropped the price to under $900 in a pop up ad. If I'm Recalling correctly, it was $879.

I would not use them if they were free!

Been using the 5000SLX for over five years on my S4 and other family vehicles. It’s invaluable. Yes would be nice to have more height sometimes and working by yourself can involve some walking back and forth to position the lift pads just so, but the clear central access and ability to get better height than stands with one wall close to one side of the car is fantastic. Have never felt unsafe using it (famous last words).

I agree 100% with all of that. My issue is the number of defects that have occurred in a few short months, and the crappy service getting them rectified. When it works, it is invaluable. Maybe I won't have any more problems going forward. We shall see. But as I said already, I'm keeping my lift bars as back up.

Can you elaborate on this? If the car was up higher and you were under it when one coupling failed, you could have been killed? Did one side of the lift collapse because of a failed coupling with no fail-safe backup?

<MORE> info, please. Link or model #, maybe. Or Pic. Google of "Workhorse lift" doesn't get very specific result.

I did have quality issues with the original parts supplied. The hose couplers were not operating smoothly and took some effort to make and break connections. I replaced all of them with good quality couplers from hydraulics supplier before using the lift. Night and day difference in operation of replacement couplers.

I've got one of the generic Chinese scissor lifts (they're all Chinese, although there are a variety of different qualities). It's "only" a 1 metre lift but that's fine as my roof height is restricted. The 928 just sits over the main lift sections and lifting blocks can be slid underneath. It's a bit of a fiddle to position the car in the right place but once done you can just move it up and down to the ideal working height for the job in hand.

It's not absolutely ideal for working underneath (it's kneeling or sitting, depending on the job) but loads better than stands. Stuff like auto-box maintenance becomes easy.

Not the 928, but you get the idea.

Looks like a Chinese copy of this German made lift.

I suspect with a bit of digging that the TwinBusch ones will be Chinese too. They are copies of American/European lifts but the cost difference is massive.

First, to elaborate, once the jack is locked into either of its two "up" positions, it is rock solid and I think safe (altho I do use jack stands as a back up system at all times). Having said that, what happened was while I was lifting, using the button controller, I always lift a little bit to make sure the rubber blocks are seated under the jack points properly. Thus, as the car was going up, only one side was lifting, and the other side lifted a bit then started to drop back down when the fluid leaked at the hose coupler and power unit. Had I just decided to lift the car all the way up without stopping to check, it most certainly would have slipped sideways off the lift on the low side, and yes, anyone around it could have been hurt. There are no worries once it is up and in the locked position.

That is a great idea and will look into that. Too bad, Bendpack is using substandard components.

Update - Bendpack (Quickjack company) came through. I had to go through non-standard channels found via a similar thread in the 997 forum, https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...00-lb-fit.html. Tyler came through and sent me all new hoses and connections, plus a few other goodies. Hopefully problems solved once and for all!

Good save
reading the quick jack forums I was concerned about failure during lifting

thus went upmarket a bit
per video one can see that locks engage about every 2.5” going up
lifted my Tundra and LR3 both about 5900 lbs
thus big safety factor lifting a 2900 lb 928
