Question chip on cam

I have noticed a portion of my cam missing, a chip really. It is about 1/8 inch wide circle pattern with a shallow depth located on one of the cam lobes. It is on the contact face of the lobe a little distance down from the apex of the smaller tapered end of the lobe. I inspected the surface of the lifter and noticed nothing unusual regarding wear or grooves. What can cause this to happen? Secondly, what should I do about this situation?

and double
Could this be a faulty casting? What else would cause a portion of a cam lobe to chip off? My humble advice is not to run the engine again until this is inspected and rectified. Good catch...

I guess I'd like to see it, but if the lifter looks OK then I'd be inclined to let it ride. If the cam does need to be replaced, adding one lifter won't matter.
