Default Heater Woes 19/02 Cured! (With a little help from my friends)

Hey guys. I'm cool man. Or way cool as my kids would have it. I can't tell you how good it feels!

Thanks to Rennlist, Jim, Big Dave, Tony and others who directed me to the heater valve which I've now wired closed. I have no vacuum at the valve and the recirculation flap above the passengers knee shelf is closed (set for outside air). No matter. This set up will keep me comfortable enough until fix-it time in the winter.

While-I-Was-In-There, I noted a small white vacuum line, similar to the one feeding the heater valve, emerging from under the intake manifold on the (drivers) right side of the throttle assembly. It's a little over a foot long and goes nowhere but it's terminated in a factory-looking red cap about 20mm in length. Can anybody identify this mystery item?

Thanks again.

Colin. Cool 89GT

colin,
i believe that vacuum line originates under the throttle body and is supposed to go to an air valve mounted on the mid area of the right head/valve cover edge. it's part of the air pump/smog control system. may have been removed or never installed.
