Default Correct color for wheels on a 79

I've searched the net and have read some posts indicating that Wurth Silver topcoated with Wurth laquer clear is the correct color. But it's unclear if this would apply for early PCars including the 928. Does anyone know what is the correct color? Here are links to Wurth Canada's paint offerings:

My early build 79 had rough cast wheels which were natural and my understanding is that 78 and 79 may have had unfinished wheels but I am sure someone more knowledgeable than me will speak up.

Of course, I painted mine Wurth silver before I realized it.

Interesting, that's actually what I had thought. But I read somewhere else left me with the impression that they were painted. Mine were polished fairly early on and had aged to a nice dullness again but a scratch that happened from an alignment machine led me to have them re-polished. Guess unless I hear otherwise I'll leave them unpainted and let them dull again over the decades.

My '78 US #342 had unpainted wheels which I have painted twice (Wurth Silver or equivalent) since acquiring the car in 1986. I had thought a previous owner had them sand blasted and then never repainted them.

If the wheels were originally unpainted, then what about the center caps?

The center caps appear to be painted. In comparing them to 997 wheels the silver is similar (pics below with and without flash). They were probably never a perfect match to the natural casting.

Would you be able to post some closer pics of your unfinished wheels? The paint is chipping on mine so this might be the best solution that also adheres to OEM spec.

My wheels are polished, so not a good representation of OE because polished makes them look more chrome-like. They had dulled nicely over the years and I'm guessing that's close to original, but, as I said above, I had to have them repolished to fix one of them. If you look at my avatar pic, that was when they had dulled and so is probably closer to original. Guy's current avatar pic looks similar (maybe from before he painted them).

‘78 original matte finish, I think

‘78 refinished

Side by side. I thought I liked the matte better, but now not so sure. Maybe it depends on the color of the car

I thought they were clear anodized rather than completely unfinished alloy?
