Default 85 clock removal

Hello, I checked the WSM and the procedure they show is for an early model, mine is different. Are there different versions of the WSM, some for the 85 model ?
I did some research and did not luck out with one that matches my model year and type of clock. I am posting this here while I keep searching.
Do I have to remove the complete console to get access to remove the digital clock ? I have removed the passenger side carpet apron which attaches to the console so I can now see the back of the clock and wires.
Can someone help.

Is the '85 a digital clock? I am pretty sure you only have to remove the trim piece on the center console that fits around the shifter and clock. Mine was not bolted or screwed in place.

Maybe you are correct, to remove the trim piece I guess you need to use trim removal tools it's not screwed in somewhere ?

That’s correct just the trim
piece. Get a second pair of hands to help pull the sides of the console out slightly then it will come out easily.

Maybe a few pics will help. This is the (broken) digital clock in my '87 Euro S4 automatic:

The clock fits in the back of the trim piece:

Below a picture of the clock in the rail of the center console: it's held in place vertically, while the trim piece locks it horizontally:

Good luck…!!!

Cheers,

Manfred

Wow, great pics, thank you. Now I see that the trim piece doesn't go in one piece all the way down to the shifter !
My clock looks like your except for no dials on each side, but I have a dark spot on it in the same location ! Is that a good indication that the LCD screen needs to be replaced or just some good cleaning of the contact points between
the 2 PCB boards in the clock ?

Hi André

The trim piece does in fact go down to the shifter plate: it goes all the way around, I just cut the pictures to fit the screen......
But above the clock it is indeed another piece of trim, nr. 7 on the PET page below:

I'm not sure what you mean with 'dials', but if you are refering to the sensors on each side of the clock: they are remnants of the old alarm system......

The clock itself I'm afraid is toast; hoping to get a repair kit as was mentioned in another thread the other day.

Thank you, forgot to check PET this time, good idea, now I see it ! The picture of the clock you showed is from an S4, correct ? On my S3, 85 model I don't have the two holes on each side.
Now I know where I am going.
Thank you again every one.

I started to remove some of the bits to get to the clock and then had to stop. The side panel has been off for about a week and all of a sudden this Saturday the clock started working again !
