Default Early Smog pump systems

Can anyone with an early year model help me out here... I was just curious what all needs to be capped/plugged/modifed when the smog pump is removed.

I've removed mine (as it wasn't even hooked up properly when I bought the car) and was interested to know what should be done with the rest of the plumbing.

And I have a braided vacuum line in poor shape there connecting to a valve at a 'T' in some of the plumbing that went to the smog pump (not sure what else it goes to). It keeps busting and giving me vacuum leak problems, and I'm wondering whether it should be replaced or if that line should just be capped...

Thanks for any info offered!

Actually the only line that need to be capped is the small vacuum line that goes to the valve three way valve. The hose from the air pump to the metal pipe on top of the cam cover should be removed to avoid it getting caught in the AC compressoer. The balance of of this sytem right up to the check valves at the exhaust system can be left in place or removed, up to you.
Be aware that the air pump is important for providing cooling for the catalyst by reducing temperature of the exhaust.

Thanks for the info. That 3-way valve sounds like what I'm dealing with.

Catalyst?

Catalytic converter - one of the emmissions control systems.

There are three reasons I can thing of for wanting to remove your air pump :
- it has failed
- remove weight
- reduce parasitic load on engine

The last two are not going to really do much for you unless you are making a track car.

I dont have a catalytic converter anymore... if there was even one built into the resonator.

I removed that a few months ago.
