My ‘83 originally came with platinum 7” all around, and I’m thinking about upgrading to the 8” rears if I can find a near perfect pair. A quick search isn’t showing any in platinum. Were the S4 manholes available in this color?
Cheers

Cant call them manhole covers any more. You must call them maintenance hole covers now in Berkeley.

Nate, those don't look like platinum, at least based on the picture and my monitor settings. the plats have a gold/brown, something tint to them The ones in the picture look more like the anodized aluminum ones are supposed to, except there's brake dust staining in the openings.
The original anodizing is an almost-flat look with almost no reflection. Over the years, folks manage to stain them with acidic wheel cleaners, polish them lightly with paint polish and wax, and otherwise damage the original surface and color. If they are silver-colored, they almost undoubtedly started life as aluminum anodized finish.
Hey Bob it must be your monitor. My '84 has the original platinum anodized wheels (see below). I am very familiar with the proper look and finish of them. The lighting on those photos of the '89 doesn't bring out the true bronziness of them but they are definitely platinum anodized. The last photo is from an S4 with aluminum anodized flat discs, aka manholes, aka Berkeley maintenance covers
Hi, i think i may be looking for the inverse for my car. i have a set of S4 manholes that need refinishing. I take it the large majority of S4's came with the silver anodized, and not platinum? I have a place lined up to anodize that are willing to try to match any color i want to go with, but need to determine which color i should do, and if there is a way to be able to get them a sample of something so we can match to it. is there any way to know what the original wheel color was from the vin or option list? i went through the options on the trunk sticker already, and none of them had to do with the wheels at all. My car is an 87 auto guards red vin# WP0JB092XHS860653. if there is a way to tell proper wheel finish. thanks!
