Default Time Relay

Hi Folks,

Searching didn’t show anything on this, my windows won’t operate without the ignition on. The owners manual says they should operate for a short period after the ignition is turned off. The wiring diagram shows the window relay being connected to a “time relay” but it doesn’t appear anywhere else on the CE panel or in PET. Is it located somewhere else in the car or am I misunderstanding something (entirely possible),

Thanks for your help.

Probably a standard relay in its place.. Very common. The delay is created from within the relay and that may explain your confusion.

Is this your relay? http://shop.928intl.com/mobile/Windo...28-615-126-00/

This is my relay for the '84. There are of course different relays for different MYs.

Thanks Kiln, just checked and I have the correct part number relay in place. I removed and opened it up and found a transistor split in half so I guess that’s my problem. Cheers Gary

My secret go-to relay is this one... They are commonly found on 1993 to 2003 Jaguars. For the Frugal among us... NO-ONE takes electrical parts from Jaguars you can often find them used at you local pick-and-pull by the hand full, often still in-situ in out of the way places shielded from the elements. The back Story is my 928 came to me not running with many electrical problems and failed relays. I have boxes of these Hella relays from a few Jaguars and one Aston Martin that I parted. So in they went to the 928. Years later still no problems with these relays on the 928 and multiple Jaguars I have. Ford owned Jaguar then and starting in about starting in 1992 they improved the quality greatly. These relays are high end and seldom fail. I value these relays so much that when I'm tinkering / prototyping with an engine swap harness or some other project I use Tyco's dont put the Hella's in until the end. They also make a very distinct and quality sounding click on activation that I've come to know and appreciate.

Understandable, based on common sentiment regarding British cars and electricity.

Cheers

This relay won't work here. Window relays have extra functions and a different pinout.
The "Time relay" is actually the chime relay in the console - here it provides the signal to turn the window relay off when the door is opened. It also creates the chime for key in (off) door open or door open and marker lights on or door open and either parking light on. It also controls the seat belt warning delay (it would be better and clearer if it were just actually called the chime relay).
