Default New to the 928 world

Hello fellow HitechEgg enthusiasts I have a very good friend and car partner located in Tarzana/LA. He bought a -82 928 aut way back in -91 - used it as a nearly daily driver until 11 years ago. It GOT shipped to Norway where I am located and we are now in the slowly process of getting it back on the road again. He gave it to my a year ago - so it will never by sold and....I know..... it would be a lot cheaper to buy a good one instead of digging into this one on its current state but history is important in this case.

currently has 195 K miles on it - rebuilt tranny but looks like a 4 speed instead of 3....
Well - I’ll probably be back soon when we are stuck with something. She receives complete new fuellines and gas tank as I type - new engine mounts and steering rack already in place. Original chiffon white paint except for right fender due to a bicycle. Obviously original interior 😂

Good luck with your project. I definitely understand the sentimental value over the dollar value. Welcome aboard. :-)

Thanx Chris - I inhereted it since he has no kids, and he is only in his fifties
The 928 has good bones - so we’ll be fine. I owned porsches since I was 19 - now 46 - but mostly 911/912’s and a few 944’s. I must admit this 928 is growing on me and will be a part of an extra garage/living/playroom with all glassview of the side of the 928! And yes - will use it as often I can 🤘

Best, Eivind

What is a Hitechegg?

If it is a true '82, it cannot "looks like a 4 speed instead of 3" for that didn't happen til '83 on US cars? If it runs you should be able to tell? Otherwise you need numbers off the case to be sure or VIN. There is a registry on 928oc.org, but you may have to pay to join which is nominal compared to the help you can get here or there which from the first questions you are asking, you should probably do.

Good luck.

Steve - simply the personalized licensplate it came with - only in a more compressed order 🤗
I thought it was a good expression 🤓
Yes - I totally agree with both membership and true -82 when it comes to the tranny. It had the D 3 2 display that made me think - my friend doesn’t remember - keep in mind he deals with 50-100 cars a year - but being a daily driver he should hehe.
It is not running ar the moment and I have never driven it. It also sits on original phonedials that are 7 inch wide...could it be a transition model latte 82 early 83? I’ll get the VIN next time I visit the shop it receives its much needed love.
Now - where would be a good place to purchase new leather for my interior?
Love the color scheme.
To get it liower - do I need the whole S4 front suspension? Rear looks already adjustable.
Already have GTS and S4 wheels for it - but like the original ones as well. Don’t care too much about performance - matching # more important, but got hold of an euro S engine just in case (overhauled) since mine has such high milage 👀

Best, Eivind

I'm glad this car has fallen into the hands of an interested party with the vision of making it a performer again..

195,000 is not high at all for 928 engines. There are several original engines still operational with 500,000 miles on them.

I've had the pleasure of being out in that part of the world (camping trip in the Hardangervidda) and it's beautiful. Are there roads where you can Drive (to differentiate from drive, which you can obviously do all over the place there)? I remember driving to Bergen and being totally stymied by all the low (50 - 70 kph) speed zones that we ran into. Of course, we were coming from Germany, so there may have been a little bit of getting used to lower speeds on the highways. Good memories; I'm glad to see that this car has ended up with someone that's willing to get it back to where it can be.

As to your questions, I am only just starting on my own 928 journey but have made a reasonable list of suppliers for older PCars. For reupholstery of the interior, I have this (https://garage9.com/collections/928?page=2) bookmarked as a supplier. From other threads on Rennlist (in the 944 threads primarily) they seem to get good reviews but I should be clear that I have not dealt with them for these items. For EU based options (I guess that definition may change soon), I have this saved (https://www.southboundtrimmers.com/index.htm) as it's the first place I saw (and that was recommended in a thread) that offered the pasha fabric, if you want to go that route. I have these saved for when the time comes.

Best of luck, I like where you're going with this!

Thank you - and so good that you enjoyed the challenging roads in Norway They make you a skilled driver - but when I lived in LA area I grew fond of Mulholland snd other twisties in the Mountains as well!

I know of Southbound and will check them up - thank you again
