1989 ROW (Rest of World) S4/GT model production was roughly 1153 units. You car was most likely sold through Mitsuwa Motors who were the Porsche importer in Japan during that time. Check you car for a Mitsuwa dealer sticker at the very bottom of the rear hatch glass under the wing...that's where it is on my car. I am interested in hearing more about your '89...last 4 digits of your VIN? Color? Interior? Any pictures to share??

Very nice! Your VIN is much higher than mine (0145) so I suspect a later production date. Your car will have differences from NA versions, and even some ROW cars as well. All Japan models were equipped with a catalytic overheat system. There is a sensor installed at each cat to monitor temps. Fog lamps are reversed from NA cars as well. When looking up parts I find this link to be the best for accuracy: http://old.utzon.se/upd/44/227/011/1

Any history on the car? Port of entry to NA? Any Japanese language stickers on the drivers inside door panel?

If you want paper copies they periodically come up for sale here or on E-bay. It is a nine volume set of binders so they don't come cheap! It took me a few years to find a set locally.

Alternatively, there are links to online scanned versions...google is your friend!

I count 2422 ROW '89s. 1050 German market, 177 French, 52 Italian, 299 Japanese LHD, 122 Swiss, 17 Austria, 3 Denmark, 3 Finland, 30 Hong Kong, , 350 Great Britain, 15 Holland, 62 Belgium, 105 Australia, 46 South Africa, 14 Spain, 2 Saudi Arabia, 32 Arab Gulf States, 11 'Special'.

So all the Japanese market '89s were left hand drive, nearly all were automatics- 292 of 299. Yours is the 170th of 299. As a general rule, the Japanese market cars are very lightly optioned, the most heavily optioned ones only have 9 options.

Here's the options listing for your car:

WP0ZZZ92ZKS840989
1989
C08 - Japanese market LHD
M28.42 - engine serial # range 81K 05001>10000
A28.16 - transmission serial # range A 2816 1K 00001>10000

M462 - Sekuriflex windshield
I567 - Windshield tinted, upper part
M650 - Sunroof

Hmmm...so outside Germany, Japan and GB were the largest ROW markets for the 928...interesting! My VIN ends in 0145 so were does that put my car in the Japanese LHD series? Thanks Rob!

Good chance you car came through the port of Vancouver...common landing point for Japanese imports into Canada. Have fun with your new toy!
